You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.
You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.
You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.
You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

The entire trip was amazing!!! There were so many different experiences we enjoyed and saw. Our tour manager Patryk always kept us well informed at all times and had little surprises for extra experiences. Patryk was also very knowledgeable always providing us with background information and great recommendations. The food was amazing, but my favorite experience was the afternoon we spent at Sky Lagoon!!! The spa treatments we got to experience were once in a lifetime and fun to enjoy with all the wonderful people we met on our tour. Best vacation ever!!!

We went to hunt the Northern Lights and we did get to see them. They don’t tell you that they’re not nearly as bright and luminous when seen with the naked eye. This tour is too rushed. There should be another day or two added to the schedule to fit everything in and have it be more relaxing, Also, I would have enjoyed a few more indoor experiences. There were only 2 on the trip and they were most enjoyable.

1st hotel room smelled terribly but when we stayed there the 2nd time it was a different room and fine. Tour manager was more than excellent. She did not leave a stone unturned. We saw everything and more. Same for the driver. He was a very skilled driver and personable.

The tour manager and our bus driver were a great combination. They knew an incredible amount about Iceland beyond the natural wonders and places that we visited. The tour started with the Golden Circle. I loved walking through the rift valley where the continental shelves diverge even though we couldn’t actually see much due to wind-driven snow. The glacial snouts and lagoons further down the southeast coast were different from the glaciers and glacier lakes in the Canadian Rockies or Alaska. My favorite event was sighting the Northern Lights. We had mostly clear nights, unusual for November. We saw a good display on the the second night of our trip.

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate to see the northern lights but it was still a fantastic tour. The spa at Sky Lagoon was the best part. Thoroughly enjoyed the spa. Our tour guide, Fillipo was outstanding and he did a wonderful job explaining not only the sights we saw but a lot about the Icelandic culture. Overall it was an amazing experience and would highly recommend this tour.

The sights were magical ! We, unfortunately did not get to see the Northern Lights however it was not from us trying with the help of our Tour Guide !! Cinytha was phenomenal! We were fascinated by the glaciers, formation from them as well as the beaches, waterfalls, and food !

My main purpose was to see the Northern Lights. The weather did not cooperate. Since I have been fortunate enough to tour many other sites, I have seen and walked on volcanoes, seen glaciers and blue glacier ice in 3 different locations, seen multitude of waterfalls in numerous trips to Hawaii and and this is my third location to see a geysir. With all this being said, the trip was just average for me. Plus the travel to get there included stressful air travel for me.

I can cross something off my bucket list. We saw the northern lights on two nights, it was amazing to see it with your eyes, but enhanced when you took a picture of it. Bonus - breathtaking waterfalls, glacier bay, ice diamonds on the black sand beach, volcanos, and sky lagoon. Our tour manager Antonja was the best with her personal touches and knowledge.

They only thing I really did not like was that I did not like changing seats on the bus each day. I totally understand your reason, but many people really much ratter stay at the original seats. I do get car sick, so I pick a seat that will be best as possible for me.

The only things that I did not like was moving seats on the bus and also the food for breakfast could of been better, choices for dinner could of been a bit better and no clocks in rooms, but the sights and people were what you could hope for and than some.

I missed my flight with my group and my sisters due to an error made by Collette travel. This was my 1st trip out of the country and since my family was going it was a trip of a lifetime, or so I thought. I missed a connecting Delta flight to Icelandicair in Boston, and had to stay over in Boston, and fly out the following night. The 1st night on the boat was the only night our tour group saw the northern lights and I was in Boston. In hindsight, after missing that initial flight and the fun flight time with my sisters, I should have had just stayed in Phx and saved the money.

Can’t have a great trip if you don’t have a wonderful tour manager. Ours was so wonderful and wanted the best for everyone on the tour. Iceland to date is one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. Watch out for that tricky shark meat bit.

Collette Tours did an excellent job of planning this trip! All went smoothly, the hotels were nice and the food was FANTASTIC! We saw a nice variety of sites in Iceland - mountains and dormant volcanoes, glaciers, black sand beaches, rocky formations, lava fields, farmland, geysers and museums! When services looked like they would be iffy on the peninsula where the active volcano is, Collette swapped the Sky Lagoon for the Blue Lagoon and I highly recommend the Sky Lagoon!!! We even did see Northern Lights. Our tour manager was excellent and the bus driver was great! I would definitely take another Collette tour!!

Our tour was wonderful from start to finish! The first day was a bit too busy, but I don’t know what could have been cut because every activity was important and special. Perhaps by adding a day it could slow the pace a bit. Our tour guide, Luis, was phenomenal! He had so many special things for us, like getting to pet and feed an Icelandic horse, he passed out Icelandic candies and treats for us to try on the long rides, and was just a wealth of information about the history, the folklore, the country’s structure for healthcare, education, taxes and how they are used. He was just super! Vivi, the bus driver, was excellent as well, adding local information and help us to learn the pronunciations of words. We were sooo impressed with them and Collette! The meals and accommodations were excellent, also, although some in our group were disappointed in their rooms in Vik. We were in the newer building and loved our room, but some were not so lucky.

Tour bus driver (Mickey) was extraordinary! Hunting for Aurora was safe & fun & productive because of the efforts of Antonia & Mickey!!! Food was fantastic!!! Accommodations were perfect. Collette Iceland Tour was better than I anticipated. Superior communications from pre-trip to post. Antonia even accompanied us through the Airport check-in process.

Missed 1st day in Iceland due to Icelandic Air flight cancelation. However, pleased with changes in itinerary to include things we would have missed otherwise. Went for Northern Lights especially and not disappointed, even though all of atmospheric conditions were not aligned to see the "big" display of the lights. Enjoyed the food, even the fermented shark! I haven't stopped talking about my trip and have been urging friends and family to plan a week visit to Iceland. What an experience!!

Iceland is a fascinating place. The tour took us to the most fabulous places. Our guide, Darko went above and beyond what would have been expected. What a wonderful people person! Our bus driver, Karol was equally friendly, helpful beyond what was also expected and a very safe driver. Collette’s way of doing business is second to none. They leave no stone unturned. The tour director and bus driver were both fantastic, and arranged the itinerary on the fly when needed to benefit us. Food allergies/options were conveyed ahead of time and were easily accommodated. Never did get to see the Northern Lights, but not for lack of trying! Airline situation was a mess. We had to depart Napa at 3 AM so we could sit around at Seattle Airport for over 6 hours. That was awful!!

What can I say….unique-breath taking vistas. Collette did a great job in the itinerary. Northern lights on our 1st night on our boat ride in the Reykjavik bay was a great start. Tour guide and driver were excellent as was much of the experience. Hotel in Reykavik was in good location but there was a problem with a false fire alarm that resulted in a couple of floors of guests using the stairs instead of an elevator. At least two of the floors were partially blocked by construction debris, lighting was not adequate and floors were not marked. One guest fell due to the debris but was not hurt. Opening night and closing night meals were excellent.

Our tour experience was aided considerably by the fact that we had great, mostly sunny weather with very little wind. Our experienced Collette tour guide was able to take advantage of the weather by getting us to places on great weather days that we might otherwise have had to skip if the weather had been more inclement. Our bus driver and tour guide were exceptional. I especially loved visiting the black sand beach at sunrise on a perfect day!

Collette, as usual, did a great job. But, understandably, Collette cannot control the weather. Daily we encountered driving sleet and rain, a couple of blizzards, and serious winds that made it feel much colder than the actual temperature. My main goal was to see the Northern Lights. That didn't happen. We were given only a 4% chance on the one night that weather permitted us to wander out. Despite Collette's best efforts, Mother Nature delivered a week-long knock out punch that made the trip really disappointing.

The tour of Iceland itself was great. The hotel The first night was unbearably loud so much so, we couldn't sleep. That is not a good way to start your tour. Several people on our tour had food allergies and were promised they would be accommodated before even booking the tour. That simply wasn't the case and our tour manager was obviously annoyed at having to try to accommodate these people. Food allergies can be deadly, so that was disappointing.

The natural beauty of Iceland was more than I had even imagined. From moss covered lava fields to waterfalls to craggy fjords to glaciers to black sand beaches Iceland was full of natural wonders. We were able to find the northern lights on two different nights and getting to interact with Icelandic horses was an awesome bonus. The History Museum of the Icelandic culture was very interesting and I’m glad it was included in the tour.. Darko did a great job as our tour guide. He was friendly, communicated well and was very knowledgeable. I was surprised at how often the weather changed, and how diverse it could be within such short timeframes and distances. I would like to note that getting to go out to see the northern lights is very much weather dependent. Overall, I was very impressed with ICELAND and I would recommend this trip to anyone.!

Because my husband and I had problem with City Hotels in Reykjavik. We made reservation for one day before the tour starts. We arrived very early morning and they did not let us check in until 2:30PM and did not let us eat breakfast even though the Collette booklet wrote that we should have breakfast.

It was a great tour. Villem reacted very experty to different situations to enhance our experience. Rather than go to blue lagoon he scheduled us at Fortuna hot springs which turned out to be great. His little things such as stopping to look at Icelantic horses was a real plus as well. Great trip.

When it was possible our itinerary might be impacted by the new volcanic activity, our guide investigated alternate plans. In fact, Blue Lagoon did close and we already had a replacement arranged. Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Baths was a great experience - AND the hot-spring baked rye bread is delicious! Great week...This was a wonderful visit to a beautiful country.

For a first time visit to a country with distinct and stunning geography, the range of our experiences was ideal. My favorite stop was Skaftafellsjokull. Seeing the Northern Lights twice was a highlight. Finding a plethora of public art in Reykjavik was wonderful when we had time to explore on our own. Our fifth day in Grindavik and the Blue Lagoon is sadly now more memorable given that community's evacuation due to seismic activity and magma movement. Our Tour Manager, Filippo Camerlengo, was the perfect host.

The tour itself was great. The guide, Mattias was so funny and personable. However, the literature provided by the local Collette office was inaccurate. The biggest selling point for this particular tour was the fact that we we're told we could get into our rooms upon arrival and all breakfasts and dinners were included. Nope. Both were lies. We were not allowed into the rooms;then we were allowed for a hefty fee, so not til 3pm were we allowed up. This was after the walking tour. The average age of the group was late 50's early sixties. The fact that the room would be available upon arrival was the biggest selling point. The tour itself was great as stated previously. We will not be using Collette in the future. This was a trial run to see if using a guided tour was for us. After this, I don't think so.

It was a well planned trip with exciting places to see. I liked hearing about their history and energy industry. We didn’t see the northern lights but that wasn’t Collettes fault. The Blue Lagoon was awesome. Everyone who had been there before me asks if I swam in it. Then we’re jokingly talk about how many years younger the white cream made us look. I clam not 10 but 20. The hotels, especially the one in Vik (Hotel Dyrholaey), fell short of expectations. The entire tour concentrated on the southern coast. Would have preferred to spend some time on the Ring Road and seen sights around the entire island.

I only gave 4 stars for a couple of reasons. One is the flight! Collette did not allow us or did not themselves choose seats on the plane, but let the airlines assign us seats at last minute. Non of our group, incl spouse were seating together AND I was in the last row next to bathrooms! AND we booked a year in advance!!! Second, I would never go to Iceland again in October! It rains almost all the time!! We never saw the Northern Lights the entire week. Some of that also has to do with the fact that going looking for them at night you only go like 10 min. from hotel! I would have driven an hour if there was an area, which there was, that I could have seen the lights. However, the tour guides and the trip excursions were great! They went above and beyond to make our experience fun and memorable.

The tour of Iceland was a surprisingly enjoyable experience. I never thought I would like going on a tour- I always thought that I would miss the freedom of doing what I want. Collette has changed my mind! What this tour had that single handily changed my mind was a superb tour guide. It was like taking a vacation with a college professor! I learned so much about the beautiful country of Iceland. I know what it is like to be in charge of people and events and I felt like our tour guide was on top of everything. Things I would change about the tour: I wish that the hotel we stayed in for the bulk of the trip would have been in Vik or another town. Because of the weather we had quite a lot of downtime at that hotel and it would have been nice to have been able to browse the streets and go to local shops or pubs. This is such a little thing but one that many of us on the tour struggled with and could have devastating ramifications. We couldn’t figure out how to open the door from the outside or inside of our hotel room in Vik. I know it sounds silly but we literally felt like we would be stuck in our room in an emergency. I only figured it out when I heard a dad explaining to his daughter how to do it. Thank you Collette for introducing me to the beautiful country of Iceland!

Enjoyable trip and beautiful scenery. I got a very good feel for Iceland and its culture. Would have liked more time on our own in the city to explore the area. The 6 hour layover in New York JFK kind of soured the travel. Overall a very good experience.

No one can help the weather but we NEVER saw a hint of the lights and part of the tour was canceled. New Zealand was so very cold. I would still like to see the lights but if it depends on the weather, I would not want to pay again for a tour that had cancellations and no lights.

It was not a good experience for me and my husband. We have never traveled with Collette before. We got to JFK airport and because we did not have a gate number to get into the terminal TSA would not let us in. Therefore we could not go back to the other terminals at JFK. We were stuck in a little area of the international area without anything to do or eat for 9 hours!!!!!!!!! And what were we supposed to do!!! Well, we kept calling Collette to help us get out of this mess to no avail!!! Also, why were we dealing with Jet Blue!?!?!? They are a DISCOUNT carrier!!! We paid a lot of money to go on this trip!!!! Anything I do to try to explain to you the difficulties we had will fall on deaf ears! ☹️ I did like our tour guide Villum and our bus driver Ragga. I also liked our accommodations.

Then to make matters worse, the travel insurance only paid for our extra expenses associated with the overnight stay and the flight back home. We are still waiting to see if Trip Mate will cover our original trip expense of $7,198.00 which is why we purchased travel insurance. They claimed they never received our original claim which was false since I sent the claim form by registered mail. I would recommend that Collette consider using a different insurance company or, at least let Trip Mate know that we should be compensated. I can't answer any of your other questions since we never made it to Iceland. I did, however, enjoy the pictures that the tour guide sent.

A beautiful time to visit Iceland-spectacular time for waterfalls. Because of a previously injured foot, I had to be very careful walking everywhere. I tested positive for Covid the day before I was to go home. The tour guide was able to provide meals for me until she had another group. At that time there was no help and I had to go out (masked) and get food.

One suggestion for future trips. The attraction in Reykjavik in the repurposed water towers where you see exhibits of northern lights, ice caves etc. We made two unsuccessful tours to see northern lights so I feel this be a beneficial experience.

We got to see the Northern Lights which was my initial reason for booking the trip. I didn't expect all of the other great parts of the itinerary such as the Blue Lagoon, Black Sand Beach and the Glacier Lagoon.

Please know that Iceland is an amazing country and I loved all it had to offer, however, there far too many people on this tour to be able to get the most out of the trip. Having 45 people on a bus did not allow much time at each stop on the itinerary, the tour host, while extremely knowledgeable on Iceland history, culture, food, politics, etc, did not connect well with so many people and was distant. Not her fault at all. My frustration was the fact that I contacted Collette on several occasions to find out how many people were actually on this tour and I never received any communication from them. It was only the day before the trip that I learned there was 45 on the tour. Had I known this at time of booking I would not have gone on this trip

New realization that weather in Iceland can change everything! Our Tour Manager (Hildur), a native Icelander, adjusted our schedule and kept us informed every step of the way. We got to see all of the sights on our itinerary, although not in order that was published. OK with that! When our Northern Lights boat cruise was cancelled the first night, she re-scheduled us for the next week when we were back in Reykjavik, which really paid off - we found the Northern Lights on our last night. Perfect ending for the tour!

Did not like the arrival first day, did not think it was well planned, should have gone straight to hotel, had breakfast there, and then waited for room availability. Those who wanted to do the walking tour could; for those with walking difficulties, not a good choice, but they could wait comfortably in the hotel. All meals were excellent. Loved the Katla Hotel in Vik.

We had to make connecting flights to Chicago. Having received the itinerary we booked 2 round-trip tickets out of Champaign, IL. We could only use half these tickets which cost us $233. THEN, Collette changed the return flight and the return time to Chicago. Therefore, our cheapest way back was to Decatur, IL BUT we had to stay over night in Chicago because we got back too late an additional $130. We had to Purchase two tickets to Decatur for an additional $140. It cost us an additional $500. Pretty hefty and Collette has refused to reimburse us for their error.

Both Helga and Heidar made this the most interesting trip. I lived in Iceland for a year from Oct 1961 to Oct 1962. Helga clearly loved her native land and its people she told us of its history and how its ancient written Sagas preserved its language she told about its gremlin and ghosts. Although it had a unique a geology. A tour I found particularly interesting was the Folk Museum. In the year that I lived there I met my future wife. She was not Icelandic. Helga lived in Cromwell Ct. for several years so language was not a problem. Our tour guide Daivde was very knowledgeable and attentive to our group. I would absolutely travel with him again. The hotels were OK. I don’t have any other Icelandic hotels to compare with. I can only say we had sulfur smelling showers in Reykjavik and a chilly walk to the dining room n Vik. Our tour included RT to the airport and flights. After this experience I will make my own travel arrangements. We arrived at MSP 5 hours before our flight. And on return we needed to find our own way from Chicago International terminal to the domestic terminal which was so confusing. Then, instead of taking a direct flight to Rochester we flew back to MSP for the 80 mile drive back to Rochester. I’m sure this saved Collette some money and I’m also sure I would have like the option to take a better flight.

I was surprised to learn Iceland had a North American/European rift that adds 5 niches a year. Lovely waterfalls were everywhere. Very interesting and informative museums. I enjoyed the trip, but the guide seemed to be not very familiar with the tour. One evening, after a boat tour, the bus failed to meet our group. Our guide started walking away from the boat to look for the bus before the entire group had disembarked. He should have made sure we were all accounted for before moving on. However, when high winds prevented us from visiting a site, he arranged for alternate, interesting places to visit.Overall a good tour. I wish our guide had shared more information about the places we visited.i was able to see the Northern lights 3 evenings. Guide also failed to make sure my luggage was collected once when changing lodging. I brought my luggage to the bus, but he didn't seem too concerned that he missed it.

Wow, Iceland. The geology of the area was so interesting. I learned about a very unique place. I saw northern lights, stepped on a glacier, bathed in the Blue Lagoon, learned about volcanos and saw a lava demonstration.

Colette's booking of connecting flights was VERY poor. Too little tome between connections! One flight missed and lost a day of the tour - airline delays, weather, short connection time, and inadequate coordination between airlines when we requested it.

Our guide, Helga Kristjansdottir, was the best of the best!!! She made the country come alive. She was fun, knowledgeable, and genuinely liked people. There was no question she couldn't answer. On one day there was too little time at the stops. The northern lights were the highlight.

Guide and bus driver were good, but guide had some trouble handling our herd of cats. A large group for a single guide to handle. On-bus talks were good but once we got off the bus too hard to listen to her because of size of group. Earphones would have helped. Restaurants were mixed. Best we’re at the end. I felt our pre-trip talk wasn’t very useful and was rather misleading in what we needed to take with us.

Seems strange that a native wouldn't do this.

I Thought the tour was great. Food outstanding. Accommodations very comfortable. Since we are not seasoned travelers thought more information about handling your own luggage would have been helpful. It was not clear to us when the luggage was our responsibility and when hotel employees took over. Consequently, upon departure our luggage did not accompany us to the airport and we had to have it deliveted to us by cab at the cost of $100,00.

The tables reserved for us had other tour groups sitting there which left six of us with no table. Tour guide was no where to be found. This is unacceptable for the money we paid for this trip!

The points of interest were very good. However do not call the tour the "Northern lights tour" because in talking with the locals they hardly ever see the Northern lights in October. Also our tour director "Mirium" was not very familiar with the area. If not for our bus driver we would have missed several points of interest. She was very dis organized, and not available to help when needed. At the Blue Lagoon she had us wait in a location where we were not allowed. We were pushed out and the bus driver found us and put us on the right course.

Being in a strange country this lead us to think that perhaps we got the meeting time wrong. At this time I would not take another Collette tour.

Having experienced several tour companies, Collette was lacking. After a flight cancellation at midnight, I felt a representative should have known and called with possible hotel accommodations. There was no one from Collette to meet us at the airport or upon arrival at the hotel. (Bus driver) I had to check myself into the same hotel twice.(Never with other companies!) Lack of communication from Collette and the tour manager. Not enough time to sightseeing the different stops. Had to choose between lunch or the site. Hotels were2-3 stars. Food was good.

Tour manager did not communicate info needed for meals and departures. She seemed disorganized, possibly overwhelmed. Never had to wait, with other tour companies, to enter sites that required payment to enter. Tour manager always had what we needed to go right through. We had wait times so by the time we got in our time given at site was reduced.

Disappointed in lack of communication, help, when flight was cancelled. I felt someone from Collette could have been tracking our trip and jumped right on the cancellation with information about possible hotel accommodations. No Collette representative to meet us at airport, nor upon arrival at the hotel. Had to check ourselves into hotel, 2 times! Lack of communication, clear information, from tour manager who was also disorganized. Time given to see sights. Several times there was not enough time to eat lunch and see the sight or just to navigate the sight. We had to choose between lunch or sightseeing. With other tour companies I’ve experienced, we were given a nice welcome dinner with a social time. Because of flight cancellation, we did not have a welcome dinner/social hour. Could have been rearranged. There was not any down time to explore on your own. Hotels were 2-3 stars. On a good note, the food was good.

The trip to "Hell", frozen OVER!!!!

The flight was delayed for 24hrs. American Airlines did nothing to help two elderly ladies to get a Hotel for the night, handed us a piece a paper with a phone number on it, get yourself a hotel!!! We had no phones and no way of getting around and had to spend the night at the Dallas Airport ( hope never having to repeat this). Somebody from Collette should have been at that airport to help us out, we spent a lot of money on this trip!

No favorite memories, only poor once!! Maybe Collette should not travel there this time of the year. It rained for 3 days, was windy and cold, one day of decent weather trying to enjoy the landscape. The lodge we stayed in, no phone in room for a wake up call, kind neighbors banged on door to wake us up! SUCKED, SUCKED BIG TIMES , want my money back!!!!!

The itinerary, for the most part, was quite good. The professional way in which our group was managed (despite the overly large size of the group) was greatly appreciated. The tour manager, Kristen, was most informative & helpful. For those of us who chose not to bathe in the blue lagoon, during freezing winds and rain, the only option for us was to sit in the cafeteria and look out at the lagoon through the rain drenched windows. I would have loved to have at least been able to wander out in the rain to get a good look at the lagoon, but we were forbidden to go anywhere near it. It would have been so much better if we had been offered an alternative. It was a very long afternoon...

The staff provided incorrect passenger lists with incorrect amounts paid. I had to go back and request that they be adjusted. On the trip the tour manager failed to advise us if crampons would be beneficial for the trip for the day. Many of us left ours inside our suitcases. Also, no headsets or water was provided. tour manager did a poor job in describing Iceland, its customs, and history. On day 2 of the tour we went for over an hour with no commentary. It would have been better for Collette to have had a local guide along on the trip. Additionally, and probably most important, the surveys we were provided 2 days prior to the end of the tour were delivered in AAA envelopes. As this is a competitor of Cruise Planners, it was inappropriate. I likely will not sell Collette anymore. I had 12 people on the tour. Many were displeased with the tour manager.

Hotels and meals and motor coach were all excellent. Transportation to/from Bristol Senior Center and driver excellent — timely, friendly, conscientious driver especially from CT to JFK. We had changed hour of departure from CT to JFK using a different limousine service and we were extremely pleased with their service. The natural beauty and sites we visited was appreciated. Wish we had more. Northern Lights were a disappointment as we never saw them during our stay. We have experienced four Collette tours and all were excellent. Tour managers were also outstanding. Our experience with this tour manager was not at the same level. We felt there was a lack of communication equally given to ALL guests. We felt (and have experienced) reminders, far more guidance (we’d be left on our own in some places — managers usually remain and mingle with group), etc. Overall, the trip to Iceland was a good experience. It is felt that the tour manager did a good job but needs to improve communication. Not only do I feel this way, but also my husband was struck with the same disappointments. One trip was walking down a path to meet up with the coach at another end — we didn’t do that seeing how dangerous the path was and thus missed the coach but it returned to the drop off point and picked us up. Guests found the path snow covered and icy and numerous slipped and fell (perhaps that walk should not be offered).

Sunshine! When the sun was out, Iceland was beautiful! The moss on lava rock and mountains. It was difficult walking and visiting sites when the blowing snow and sleet pelted our faces. The sun shone when we visited Diamond Beach so needless to say, that was nice. It drizzled when we visited Black Sand Beech and we got our feet wet when a wave sneaked up on the beach where we walked. All an adventure!! Meals were very good and we experimented with pates (fish, horse, reindeer). Loved the cod made with a simple sauce (light with tomato) and especially the cod with béchamel!!!

Each traveler has a personal page for e-mail communication, but nothing is communicated for many weeks, months. Suggestions for clothing for weather conditions, etc., come way too late and cause traveler to scramble to have appropriate things along (2 weeks in advance should really be 1 or 2 months in advance). I participated with a small group from my local senior center, and the travel director for the center should be included in the information distribution, not just the individual travelers, so as to be knowledgable about details..

I do not understand why Collette provided a Tour Manager who did not speak English proficiently knowing that it was English-speaking group. Mario has a delightful personality, but I could not understand what he said 20% to 30% of the time due to his Italian accent. Collette advertised that the Tour Manager would be an expert on cultural and historical matters of the country. Either Mario did not know such information or he did not have the vocabulary in English to verbally relate the information. I am trying not to focus on the information which I was not provided but expected to receive as stated by Collette. The good news is that I saw the northern lights which is the reason I went on the trip.

I would have given it 5 Stars but there were two things that stopped me. One is that they should add a few more dollars to the package and give us a small breakfast when we arrive. We were travelling from 7PM the night before, landed on a Sunday at 7AM and had to find breakfast on our own. The other problem was the walk from my room to breakfast was dangerous as thick ice was on the ground and it was dangerous to walk. Breakfast was served at 7AM and we slipped and skidded all the way.

The tour was great and we loved so many of the things we got to see (glaciers, diamond beach, Black sand beach, waterfalls, northern lights, the people, blue lagoon, geysers). We had crazy weather but it added to the excitement of being there. Beware The Black Sand Beach though. Four of our tour members were knocked down by a Sneaker Wave and one was especially at risk of being pulled out to sea. We had a wonderful time and view it as an opportunity of a lifetime.

He was knowledgeable, helpful, funny, personable....loved him...We saw amazing sights, had great weather (except for the cold cold wind), loved the Blue Lagoon and much, much more. Would love to have spent an extra day or 2. The only thing which was not great was the buffet in Vik. Everynight the food was pretty much the same. The soup changed nightly but most everything else was the same every night .

I had to book an after trip extension on my own because the rooms reserved for Collette were all taken. When I did so, I evidently reserved them for the wrong date. When I realized the error there were no rooms available at the hotel. This was in Reykjavik, Iceland and the hotels fill up quickly. Even though it was not Collettes responsibility, the tour director, Carol, and Collette emergency help, worked for quite a while and were able to find a room for us. I cannot thank Carol and Collette enough for all the concern and help they gave us.

I thoroughly enjoyed our short 5 night, 6 day trip to Iceland. It was truly a beautiful outdoor adventure! Our tour manager, Greg Hall, was the best! He was organized, efficient, funny, and caring. Thought of everything we needed and more! The two hotels that we stayed at were adequate. Probably pretty much on par with what Iceland has to offer at this time. We did have buffet dinner at the hotel in Vik for three nights and that did get a little repetitive. We did have two nice dinners at restaurants while in Reykjavik. And we did see the Northern Lights, thanks in large part to Greg and his persistence! I would certainly go with Collette again.

I felt that the contact from Collette was minimal. Our travel agent handled everything and even after we received our confirmation from Collette, it was up to me to check that everything I had paid for was included in the package. They sent a great package with info just before the trip, but except for signing up for their app, I had no other contact from them. If I had any questions, I contacted my travel agent who then called Collette.

I wasn't sure how much out of pocket expense I would have, but it turned out, that except for lunches (none were included), all other meals (breakfast & dinner) were included. Everything that they said would be included in the tour was except for a boat cruise. Our Tour Guide said he would submit a refund for the boat trip for our tour but I haven't seen anything yet. Despite the weather, they tried to get everything described in the tour brochure. For an overview of Iceland, it was great, but seeing the Northern Lights leaves a lot to the imagination.

They know the information we need & more about where we are going & make it fun. The bus drivers need extra praise for where they some times have to drive!

Too bad we could not see the Norttern lights with the naked eyes like I thought we would. Years ago I saw them where I lived without anything special. We only had one night to see them. I feel you should not advertise this as magical because it wasn't. Only those with special lense on their cameras could see them. For those of us who have older cameras this was a bust. Over all though it was a great trip. New experiences with food, weather, etc.

Beth, the tour mgr, was excellent—-as was Stefan, the driver. They rearranged the schedule according to the weather forecast so we could maximize our experience. It certainly wasn’t their fault the Northern Lights didn’t cooperate! However, it wasn’t stressed strongly enough that cellphones are virtually useless to capture the Lights. Nor are the high winds, Islandic weather, their responsibility!

The bus driver, Haydsr, was very careful with his driving on all the icy roads. He also was very personable and added information about the sites we visited since he is from Iceland. Chuck Tracy, our guide, was also excellent. Aside from being very knowledgeable, he was very personable with each guest, making sure everyone was included. I think he went of and beyond what was expected of him as a tour director.

We came home with wonderful memories and some great sweaters.

I loved the trip to Iceland and very much appreciated the wide variety of places and events I was able to access in only 1 week. The hotel and food was fabulous. The tour director (can't remember her name) rather vehemently berated one of the women in our group for a slightly late return to the bus. The customer apologized and reported that she had gotten turned around and slightly disoriented which caused her slight tardiness. I did think the tour directors response was too intense for such a minor infraction of her rules and it did make me feel uncomfortable. Also, sometimes in unfamiliar territory, we all need more information rather than less, and sometimes I felt like I was unsure of times and locations, what was next, etc. I am thankful that James Martin was with our group and he provided the reassurance and extra (or repeated) information/update several of us (in my group) needed in a patient and friendly manner.

The tour was fabulous. Guide wonderful. The flight connection to and from Seattle was much too SHORT! Had to run to catch flight. Last passengers on plane before doors closed. The result was no luggage after arrival for 24 hours. The result in return to Los Angeles was an overnight stay in Seattle. TSA closes at 6:30 PM.

Biggest disappointment for me - The tour director must not have counted the people in our group before leaving me at Thingvellir National Park. I was fortunate that another bus driver drove me to the next tour spot, and then he had to return to the museum where I was left behind to get his tour group. I tipped that bus driver $40.00, as I was so relieved to be back with my Collette tour. I told our tour director that I was left behind at the museum stop. His reply was, "I am glad you were able to get back to our group." No apology. He never mentioned it again. A major landmark and tallest building in Reykjavik is the Hallgrimur's Church. I asked if we were going to have a tour of this beautiful church. Tour director said, "No, but the bus driver could drop off those people interested to see it, and pick you all up later." That is what happened. Why was there not a guided tour of this landmark, and to see the statue outside the church of Leif Ericsson, son of Iceland, discoverer of Vinland? This was a gift from the USA to the people of Iceland on the 1,000th anniversary of the Althing in 1930 AD. I discovered this writing on the statue on my own, not directed by anyone. The organist was practicing while we toured the church, which was wonderful to hear. However, the stairs to view the city were closed at that time. Those people who went on their own earlier said it was a beautiful view of the city from the tower. Too bad we could not have seen it. I was disappointed that we only saw the tongue of a glacier. In Canada we got to walk on a glacier and had a tour guide explain about their glaciers. We did see a wonderful museum about volcanoes, but no tour guide, as we had to see the museum on self-guided tour. I saw some other groups have a guided tour with a leader telling them about the natural forces. Title of tour was "Iceland's Magical Northern Lights" which we never saw. No information given about the Northern Lights, or video - nothing!! One night we sat on a bus hoping to see them - none to be seen. I do not plan to ever go on a Collette Tour again, and I am telling other people my terrible experiences. After the tour I later telephoned Collette Public Relations and explained what had happened. She listened and nothing was done. I wrote about some of these experiences in my survey. Nothing was ever related to me that the survey was even read by the home office. Then, in the Reykjavik Airport there was poor accommodations, long waiting lines, some of the boarding ticket machines did not work, so we had to go to another line to wait for an airline personnel to receive our boarding ticket. Can you see why I gave such a poor rating to this tour of Iceland? There were more problems with this trip, but I think you get the idea.

My favorite memory was swimming at the Blue Lagoon. When we had to purchase our morning breakfast and lunches, the prices were very high. I remember for one lunch I had to pay $17.00 for a bowl of soup and piece of bread. The meals at our three days and nights at Vik were all the same foods at the buffet tables.

The overall experience was poor. I have been on many tours with Tauck and Lindblad and never experienced the lack of service and planning this tour had. Why wasn't there water on the bus? Why did the tour manager seem so inexperienced and read from his phone to describe the areas we visited. He told no anecdotes. Why did we have to walk two blocks to get to the hotel in Reykjavik? Why did we have to walk a block to our bus at the airport? As I wrote in my critique I would pay $1,000 more for the trip to have better service. I doubt I would ever use Colette again. The hotel in Vic was abominable with dim lighting in my room and a urine smell in the bathroom.

We had been to Iceland before, in the spring, so it was nice to see it in the winter. Even though we didn't see the Northern Lights ( too cloudy & rainy), we saw beautiful waterfalls & landscapes. It was interesting to only have 5 hours of daylight, yet it did not interfere with the itinerary. Our arrival was delayed by one day due to a flight cancellation, but Collette made sure someone was there to pick us up at the airport & get us to the hotel in time for breakfast and to join up with the group for our first full day of touring.

The service was disappointing. We paid for a transfer from the airport to our hotel because we arrived a day early. Much to our surprise no one came to pick us up. When I called the Collette emergency phone number i was told we would be picked up. ten minutes later we received a call and told to take a taxi or a bus. Our tour manager did nothing more than the minimum required of his job.

This travel experience was wonderful for me for two primary reasons. First, I have not seen a country as beautiful as Iceland. I was so amazed and awed by the geological features, each exploration more stunning than the last. Secondly, I am delighted with the services of our guide, Geoffrey. He was knowledgeable of geological features and provided many printed materials to help the guests learn and understand. He took pictures to share with us and even picked a rock from the black sand beach for me as a sample of sand eroded basalt. I loved the visit to the cultural museum and to the volcano museum. I hope to go back again and maybe get a horse ride included. This is the best Collette trip I have taken, even surpassing beautiful Ireland and inspiring Maritime Anaya provinces.

When we arrived at the airport, it was pouring. We had to walk a long way in the bad weather to get to the bus. Once we were settled in the bus, the driver told us that the new bus we were in had windshield wipers that did not work and we had to move to another bus. Really, wipers not working in a new bus?? Also, when we arrived at the hotel, we had to wait hours before the local tour. The tour guide put us into a room off the lobby, for hours with no refreshments. I had asked at the reception desk if they could provide hot water as there were some tea bags left over from a meeting, and was told that if we wanted anything, we had to buy it. I have never experienced this with any tour group I have travelled with. The local tour guide and our trip tour guide were very knowledgeable, and the bus driver was terrific. Met some very nice people, but was very disappointed with Collette as a whole. I don't think I would travel with the company again.

There were good things about the tour but I am going to focus on the things that should have been done better. Woke up in the morning of the tour with no idea when it would start. at 0930 we found out Tour would start at 1100 We were told to be in the lobby at 1050. A lady with a Collette coat on called us to the bus. Turns out it was the wrong bus. Why would you have 2 busses from the same company leaving at the same time? After Reykjavik walking tour Collette had 2 buses leaving the city hall at the same time. Again people were getting on the wrong bus When we got back to the hotel both buses got there at about the same time. Most of the people needed to check-in. So there was an instant 60 person line. Again poor planning. We were told the bags would be in the room, but none were. All the tours I have been with hand out keys to the rooms when we get there. No lines. Seems like Collette should be able to do the same. We were told the coach would take us to the restaurant for dinner. When we got on the coach we were told we would be dropped off and walk to the restaurant. Most of the people were not dressed for a walk. It would have been good information to communicate before we got on the coach There were 2 coaches waiting when we were done with dinner. Neither driver new which coach was for which Collette group so we had to stand in the cold rain until the tour manager came to tell us which bus to get on. The busses either need to be identified by group or don’t have 2 busses there at the same time. On 09/30/18 it was a beautiful day in the morning. We went to the Skogar Museum. Late in the afternoon, we went to Reynisfjara beach. By then it was cold and windy. And the pictures at Reynisfjara would have been better in the morning. The tour guide had given us a lecture on being flexible. He should have been flexible and changed the order. Reynisfjara beach should have been when it was sunny and calm and the museum when it was cold and windy. On the last night, we had a Northern Lights Cruise. We went to dinner first. After dinner, we had 1.5 hours to fill before the cruise while the other Collette group was eating. When they got done eating they went straight to the boat. We followed 15 minutes later. There was one lady in our group who could not keep up. I stayed behind her to make sure she did not get separated from the group. When we got to the boat my wife and I were the last ones on. There were no seats remaining on the top 2 levels. We had to sit by ourselves on the bottom level. There is no reason we should have been last on the boat. We should have been at the boat as soon as we could get on so we could get the prime seats.

Northern Lights in Iceland - tick another off the bucket list

I book coach tours based on the brochure tour content, I was not disappointed & this was my first Collette tour, & they are relatively unknown by Australians, having only been operating in Oz for the last 5yrs. Their administration & customer service could do with improvement, very slow on replying to enquiries & confirming bookings. The free chauffeur was a nice luxurious start to my trip, better than walking from home with my luggage, although the driver i had had a few close calls, driving like a maniac rally driver thru the traffic & we had loads of time. Our tour director was excellent, some nice unexpected photo stops (which is rare these days with other coach tour companies, so much appreciated ), our safety was also a priority when we had to stay one day in Vik at out accommodation and forgo going to a museum & a waterfall i think, due to high winds making it unsafe for the coach to be on the road incase there was a icey road. We managed to still go to the factory outlet & grocery store, but the hotel/TD should have more dvds on hand incase of these circumstances. We managed to make up the waterfall stop on our drive back to Reykjavik, which was greatly appreciated. Our coach driver was excellent. I had a very early morning flight departing Reykjavik & our TD got up & made sure I had something for breakfast from the hotel & that my chauffeur transfer arrived to take me to the airport.

We thought the itinerary was well-planned, time in the city/countryside just right. Adjustments were made for very (and I mean 'very') windy days i.e. going to a museum and stores instead of driving to see a glacier. Safety was always a priority. Relaxing in the Blue Lagoon will always be a special memory for us.

We visited so many beautiful places in Iceland. Most memorable tours included the Reykjavik city walking tour (in a sudden snow shower!); the Reykjavik Bay evening cruise to view the Northern Lights; and the Glacial Lagoon. The new Volcano Museum and the black beach/ basalt formations were interesting stops that shouldn't be missed! Lots of beautiful waterfalls and the geyser park are also notable places to see while visiting "the land of fire and ice."

The local guides, Abbie and Daniel, were excellent. We could not have had a better experience with anyone. They would have received five stars if I was rating them alone. However, by Collette's service, I also assume you mean to include the administrative sales force in the home office. Communication is often difficult, but the several things happened not only with us, but with our neighbors. First our airline tickets had to be changed which resulted in extra costs to us and that also happened to our neighbor. The airport to hotel transfer snafu happened to us (we thought it was on our voucher but when we got to Iceland we found it was not), to another person on our trip, and also to our neighbor. All of us thought we'd paid for the airport to hotel transport. Plus, our layover in Toronto, Canada, really should have been four hours instead of three. As a result of late flight arrival (30 minutes), a stalled escalator, a slow baggage experience, and navigating a huge airport that we didn't know and going through US customs (30 minutes) we missed our flight and had to stay overnight in Canada. The trip itself--excellent. Abbie made sure we had YaktraX---and that made the difference between an enjoyable adventure and disaster. YakTrax (or something like them) should be on your list of required equipment for this trip if travelers take it in winter! Well this tour was badly affected by the weather, not in your control, and we missed many planned excursions, we are still in discussions with the UK office as to the level of compensation for that. We were also initially charged for the transfer back to the airport after our extra day in Reykjavik. We pay for ALL transfers as part of our holiday cost, this EXTRA charge is most unwelcome!!! especially as it was £114. The hotel in VIK was not very good, accommodation away from the main hotel, one morning we could not leave the block due to the blizzard conditions, so missed breakfast, with no phone in the room we felt isolated, the room lacked many things, no safe, little storage space basic shower facilities etc etc. Appreciate VIK may not have alternative accommodation to offer, but this one was more like a treckers hostel rather than 3 star or better hotel! Another point was Gratuities, as UK customers this is INCLUDED in the base price of the holiday, but our tour Manager, Mark Godin, made the usual statement to the rest of the group, mostly Americans, re the expected level of Gratuities. When I spoke to him later re our exemption from gratuities, he said he did cover the point British and Australian were exempted, I do not recall him saying that, nor did others traveling with us,we felt morally obliged to make payments, too him the driver etc. This should NOT happen. All in all not one of the best experiences we have had with our other trips with Collett, yes we enjoyed the bits we did, sometimes in heavy snow! but we missed so much due to circumstances, and would not recommend this holiday to our friends due to the uncertain weather conditions

I would have given 5 stars but the food was terrible. I know I was in Iceland but serving Horse and Reindeer is a stretch for me. Very limited choices. I was able to survive on ham and cheese and bread.

Although weather conditions did not allow us to see the Northern Lights, the tour was very well organised by Marc Pascucci who looked after us really well and was even able to switch the itineries on a couple of days because a severe storm was due so we didn't really miss anything other than museums. Bearing in mind this was the worst storm that Iceland had had for about 7 years with snow driven by 70mph winds it was remarkable that we achieved most things on the itinery. Both Marc and the driver did an excellent job. Thanks for the refund we received recently.

Excellent value for money in terms of the quality of hotels, meals, tour rep and drivers. The thing we will remember most is the worst storm Iceland has had for many years but in terms of sight seeing it was the Geysers and Waterfalls.

Tour Managers both disappeared onto our respective "buses" and left 3 of us to get on the wrong bus in the dark with horizontal rain. Didn't tell us our "bus" was in fact a VAN. The first hotel had 6 of us waiting an extra hour in the lobby for our rooms to be ready, while everyone else got to go to their rooms. And after 48 hours of being awake, that whole scenario is ridiculous. Need time to regroup after first arriving. Not doing a 2 hour full city walking tour AND a midnight boat cruise.

Fabulour tour, with very interesting stops between Reykjavik and Vic.

This Northern Lights tour in mid-January was awesome. My pictures, in color, look like pictures taken with black and white film, and are beautiful. *****, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and interesting at the same time. He struck a great balance between commentary and silence times. The hotel staffs treated us very well and the accommodations were good. There were no Northern Light sightings until the last night in country due to cloud cover, rain and snow, but that one view was pretty impressive.

Fabulous tour guide and bus driver, great stops between Reykjavik and Vic, awesome photo opportunities and good hotels in both places. The one think that was not worth the money we paid for it, was the Icelandic Air flights. Very "NO FRILLS" and a rude crew on both flights. The pilot was not on time for the flight home and they made us stand in line - on a stairway - waiting for him. I'm 71 and didn't appreciate it. We were rudely talked to and the gate staff seemed fine with it. We didn't even get served coffee before arrival after our over night flight. Worst airline I've ever flown. The tour gets 5 stars, the airline - NONE.

I take at least one tour a year, usually to Europe. This tour was the perfect balance of activities for the climate. The beauty of Iceland is spectacular. The only thing the hotels had going for them was location, the food was average and the same every day and the rooms were bare bones, but clean and comfortable. Marco, the Tour Manager, ranks in my top 3 of all time. He managed us effortlessly with a great deal of humor. He has a very light touch.

Not very happy with the Hotel Centro Plaza. Did not like the rooms in the older part of the hotel. Need of repair.No staples such as Shampoo in the room. Front desk had none either? Stayed in the new part of the hotel at the end of the trip for one night. It was very nice.

I had a wonderful trip and all the people on the bus were nice and ***** the tour leader and ***** the driver were excellent. We all mixed very good together. Everyone was always on time and usually didn't have to wait on anyone. In the past trip with another tour group we always had to wait on the same 3 people every where we stopped. ***** really knew her stuff. This was a trip that I didn't want to take because of the cold but my traveling partner had this on her bucket list so I went expecting to stay on the bus most of the time. I only did that 1 time. REALLY enjoyed it. We also had time to shop at various places and on the other trip I took we hardly had time to shop. ***** and ***** are an excellent representatives for your Company. Hope to do another tour with ***** but either in Italy, Spain or Baltic. I have requested that I be notified if this happens. Thumbs up for Collette.

The 2nd night we went to look for the Northern Lights. Our bus was a good mix of the same time of people. ***** gave us glow sticks to help bring on the Northern Lights. We acted like little kids and all the way from the hotel to the site we were waving and acting stupid with the glow sticks. Our bus was a warm and friendly group. The next to last night we had 1 of our people in the group who played the piano and sang. We all got together and sang Christmas songs.

horrible - his will explain what I think is inhumane treatment I received from your tour guide ******* ****** on my tour of Iceland on Nov. 18 #841430 Do to flight canceled I had to fly all day and night - then that night had to walk in freezing cold weather 3 or 4 blocks to a so so restaurant mistake 1- I did not have my luggage out on time - I did not hear the person from the hotel knock on the door - **** had to come and pound on the door yelling at me to get my luggage out he was not happy that he had to come up to my room. there are no phones or clocks in the rooms- i did other tour group receiving cell phones from the desk clerk. mistake 2 - on the tour I ask **** a question about the many horses I saw - would not answer He does NOT like questions mistake 3- on Sunday I slipped and fractured my wrist - OK I am now on ***** nasty list. Monday morning I was dumped in the parking lot of a clinic in Vik and left. Bus was gone before I even reached the door of the clinic. The clinic had no x ray machine. I had to call the hotel for a ride back to the hotel - they only serve breakfast and dinner - no lunch. told **** that I needed to get to a hospital for an x-ray. Tuesday after visit to blue lagoon and lunch I was again dumped in the parking lot this time of the hospital and left. this was about 4pm I was in the hospital for at least 5 hours and had to take a taxi back to the hotel no dinner no calls to check on how I was doing. never asked if I was OK **** said that he will put names up to show where we will be sitting on the bus so he would make sure we rotated the seats maybe for everyone else but after first day I was put in the very back and there I stayed. My treatment from him was so wrong even the other people on the bus wondered why... this is only part of what I think is mistreatment I received ***** ****** *** *** ***

This was a trip of a lifetime! Every detail was planned and things ran very smoothly . The tour group leader, ****, was very knowledgeable and handled everything perfectly. There is not much free time but I don’t know where it could be added in such a busy schedule.

I loved the glacial lagoon. To watch the pieces of glaciers swirling around, knocking into each other, heading out into the ocean in so many shades of Blue is an experience I won’t forget. Then to see them washed up onto diamond beach was just beautiful.

Iceland in November

I really liked the pre-trip information provided—what to pack, currency, what to expect, etc. The coach bus was excellent. It had the slide out aisle seats to provide more room. Our driver is a native of Iceland and was great behind the wheel and seemed like a “good guy”. I felt very safe with him. Our guide was quite knowledgeable and pleasant. I did feel the trip was a little unorganized the first two days. It took until day 3 for us to leave any location on time. The itinerary kept us busy all week but, overall, I don’t think there are enough different things to do in Iceland in the winter. Not seeing the northern lights in color was a disappointment though not Collete’s fault. We did go out evenings as much as possible to try to see them. The Blue Lagoon outing was a big hit. I thought the hotels were adequate for the locations—city and country. Food was better than I expected (I went with low expectations) and I liked having breakfast and dinner included. I heard Iceland was expensive but found out it’s VERY expensive.

The tour itinerary was good, the tour director was knowledgeable about Iceland and the bus driver was excellent. Our Chris Limo ride was a nice touch however, the driver seemed to be unaware that the gratuities were include in our ride to the airport. Please make sure the company you hire tells their employees about that fact ....it was an uncomfortable situation. Also, we were never made aware of the change of time for the meeting time for the morning tour. We just happened to go down to the lobby early and discovered the tour director and others in the middle of a meeting. The tour director said," Oh you are the missing people". Why couldn't the tour director make a call up to our room or make us aware of the change of time? Something similiar happed to us with a Collette Tour to Panama 2015. It seems that Collette doesn't really care about the clients that come early for their tours. Please don't let this happen again to someone that comes early. The accommodations were simplistic, but the Hotel Katla stay was lacking compared to the accomodations of the others on the tour. We stayed in the short house...the others in the long house...felt like a second class person. There were a group of people that never rotated on the bus...this was conveniently overlooked by the tour director. Treating people equally is a must for a good tour experience. Another, was that there was no possiblities of an upgrade in the fight choice from Collette.

Having all of the itinerary, information and tickets in one concise zippered folder was wonderful. The timing of everything was excellent. The only thing that may need to be reconsidered is the time necessary in the Iceland airport for the return trip should be lengthened. By the time one stands in line to get the tax refund, convert money, check in and baggage, there was no time left to shop or get something to eat before boarding the plane. The airport still needs to work on its tourist volume, moving the crowds through and communicating with passengers as to their procedures. After completing the foregoing, we had 10 minutes to get to our gate which caused stress

This trip should not have been called Northern Lights tour. There was minimal effort made to see the lights. Our guide went out on a tour with the group only ONE TIME. The boat ride was canceled 2 times and no alternate arrangement was made. My husband and I privately took a bus tour on one of the nights and paid out of pocket ($160). On the first night we were in VIX our guide did not even show up to explain, lead or organize the group. There was a good museum in Reyjivak on the Northern Lights. We found out about it ourselves and went on our own time. Pathetic.

The Golden Circle tour of the geyser, tectonic plates and waterfall. We had a sunny day and saw a rainbow over the waterfall. We had a nice day at Blue Lagoon. Another highlight was the glacier along the southern coast. Fosshotel was disappointing for the price as we booked an extra day for $380. Vix also was very marginal. I question the need to stay for 3 nights, especially since the Northern Lights are de-emphasized in the trip. Again, do not call this a Northern Lights tour -- very misleading.

Organized tour, and at a fair price. Would prefer a local guide for a tour. Hotels just average, but probably reflects the limitations of this particular venue. Entire tour is improperly and misleadingly marketed as a Northern Lights tour, when in fact the lights were not seen for over two weeks because of cloud cover. THIS SHOULD NOT BE MARKETED AS A NORTHERN LIGHTS TOUR! But rather as a tour if Iceland with the POSSIBILITY of seeing the Northern Lights!!!

As far as the overall tour is concerned, it is a unique experience, in spite of its limitations (weather, expense of local purchases, etc.). However, it is NOT a "Northern Lights" tour as it is marketed. Very misleading advertising! The lights can be a rare sight and are not usually visible as the tour marketing implies. This is false advertising!! Our favorite experience was walking through the split in the techtonic plates while on tour, as well as bathing in the Blue Lagoon. Both unique to Iceland.

All sites are just awesome. Diamond Beach beautiful. The country side in Vik perfect. The Golden Circle tour magnificent. Waterfalls, geysers, Vik, Reynisfjara black beach with its basalt columns, Iceland is such a beautiful country.

we loved the entire tour. Without a tour guide we would not have know the sites to include in a 5 day visit. The tour guide and driver were extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. All of the sites were well worth the time to visit. The only complaint was that there wasn't quite enough time to spend at each location and no off-time to spend in the villages. It might have been better to arrive in Reykjavik the day before the tour starts. That would also give people one night to recover from the overnight flight.

The tour , guide, hotels, food and bus driver were excellent. What I had a problem with is the way I booked the tour. May of 2016 I booked 8 people and 2 days later I booked 3 more and I was told I couldn't get the group rate. This was 10 months before the trip. I feel as though Collette ripped me off. I travel quite a bit and would probably not use Collette again because of this. Other people on the tour only booked a couple of months in advance.

Most aspects of the holiday weekend very good, it was difficult trying to find the connection in Iceland, the man did not speak 1 word to any of us on the mini bus, also the board he was holding had Collette in very small letters at the bottom of the other tour operators it was advertising. After quite a long day this was a bit stressful.

I must say I was quite disappointed in my trip to Iceland. I went to see the Northern Lights and only saw a pale piece of them through a small display on a fellow traveler's camera display. I realize you have no control over Mother Nature. Nonetheless, I can't cross this off my bucket list. It was nice seeing the Black Beach and glaciers, though.

Iceland was never a country I even thought of visiting until I saw this package from Collette. I am GLAD I did!! Our tour manager Mark was amazing!! He showed us the beauty of this country, taught us some local language and culture and introduced us to some AMAZING scenery. He changed up our route on some days due to weather so we're able to experience these amazing places before Mother Nature wanted to hide them. The Northern lights were beautiful!! Standing behind a 100ft waterfall and feeling the power surround me was amazing! The glacier bay and diamond beach made me think of how powerful and giving nature is to us. Learning about how the people of Iceland persevered and picked up after the volcano erupted. Strong people who love their country! The people were open and welcoming at our hotels and gave us places to go, things to try and helped us experience a taste of Iceland from their perspective! Amazing, Amazing tour with just the right amount of time at each place. Well worth lacing up those boots, layering up and enjoying the beauty of Iceland!! This was my 2nd trip with collette and I have had amazing experiences both times!! Next trip is already planned!!!

Group size is always rather large, and on this trip there was a preassembled group of 25 from a travel club, which definitely limited socialization. I think a predetermined group that large should have been booked separately, or at least we should have been made aware that they dominated that booking. Of course we were disappointed that we didn't see the Northern Lights, but the itinerary, the leader and the driver were wonderful! We had some problems about pickup, which were addressed fairly and quickly by Collette.

No northern lights this trip, but the waterfalls, iceberg lagoon and lava formations more than made up for it. Having a large coherent travel club group booked on this date was rather limiting in some respects, and the accommodations outside Reykjavik were quite rustic (we wound up with a space heater in our room) but overall it was a wonderful experience.

The tour was perfect for the time we had to spend in Iceland begin with the walking tour of Reykjavik and learning about the history of Iceland provided by a very knowledgeable and engaging local guide. I loved that we stayed in the country more than the city. All of the sites were great but my favorite was going to the glacial lagoon and seeing the icebergs! They were magical!

We really enjoyed the Blue Lagoon, the geyser, horses and the glaciers. We were able to see beautiful rainbows and waterfalls. Due to the weather, the Northern Lights viewing was a disappointment; no boat ride either. The people on the tour were fun. Our bus driver Daniel was fantastic. Glaciers were really great. Got up close to them which I hadn't done before. The number of waterfalls were wonderfull. Really a wonderful experience as that's one thing we go to see a lot in our own state but these were so big. Museums were interesting and enjoyed the volcano one. Enjoyed the time on the ocean as We don't have access to one. Enjoyed seeing the size of the waves. Beat out Lake Superior waves.

Amazing Iceland Experience

We had a wonderful week in Iceland, including visits to gorgeous waterfalls and glaciers. We even got to see the Northern Lights twice! And in spite of very cold weather, wind and snow, we swam in the Blue Lagoon. Our tour was extremely well organized and managed by our Tour Manager. We've already signed up to take another Collette Tour next year.

The tour covered important points of interest. The Blue Lagoon was a favorite of mine. Being on a boat looking for the Northern Lights was quite an experience. Seeing the waterfalls and the beautiful lava beaches and glaciers was also a high point of the trip. I think on the day of arrival, there was a little too much to see and do. We took a tour of part of the city and spent too much time at the cemetery. Being so tired, I felt that the boat ride to see the aurora borelis could have been scheduled for another night. A lot of us were very tired and the ride was quite long. As it was, due to no fault of yours, we did not see the northern lights.

This is a hard one. I feel 4 out of 5 is unfair to you as it is only 80%. I believe in reality the tour was closer to 95 - 98% in rating, however not perfect. We were disappointed in that we paid for a night cruise to see the Northern Lights but cruise and tour never went. Also the prenight hotel room we purchased at the front end and first night tour hotel room should have been a better room.

There is always room for improvement. I will say you were above just good, but not quite excellent. We had forty people on the tour with 1 tour manager, who was excellent,and fortunately we all got along well. Does that happen ALL the time? I doubt it. Smaller group tours would be a lot nicer.

Favorite spot was probably the Blue Lagoon, however the beaches and waterfalls, glaciers, and of course the "lights" we're wonderful. I would have loved a horse ride but that was not in the cards. I would of gladly given up a couple of the falls for a horse! Now that would be my favorite hands down.
