You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.
You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.
You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.
You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

Thursday -10/17-Day 6 BEST DAY EVER!!!! Remember my story about the wine and food pairing for Chefs class that Stu bought me for my 50th birthday in Napa Valley? Well, this day trumped that experience! Today’s Private cooking class from Casa Grande’s Chef Guila was life-changing! I learned so much straight from the expert, hands on, in a real Italian kitchen dating back to the early 1300s, oh my God, the pictures and videos that Stu captured are amazing and will be cherished for the rest of my life. I am ready to bring this new knowledge and skills back, and teach it to others because the quality of ingredients, the freshness, textures, and flavor profiles, are indescribable and so much fun to learn. It was exactly what I needed to regenerate my passion for cooking and teaching. So grateful to Stu for making this possible and encouraging me to do it, even though I really was not feeling it last night. He knows me better than I know myself. And in only two hours, we made four types of focaccia bread, personal pizzas, calzone, white table bread and potato gnocchi with pesto! I even got a proper pronunciation lesson to boot. I had to promise her I would pass that lesson along to anyone I taught these dishes to. When everything was cooked and ready, we got to sit down in a very intimate dining setting in the family dining room just off the kitchen and enjoy all that we had made. Stu had plans to go to the gym and for a swim while I was taking the class, but it was so interesting for him that he stayed and took pictures and videos and even joined in and made his own pizza, it was such a good time. One of those things that just happen that you can’t really plan but he just knew that if I showed up, it would be an experience of a lifetime and he was right! Guila opened a 2019 bottle of Sangiovese Rosso for our meal and we dined like the King and Queen of the casa. After the Rosso we had more of the dessert wine with biscotti, said our goodbyes with much appreciation to Julia and stumbled back to our room through many hallways and staircases, trying not to get lost, again. About to take a big fat nap so much for the rest of the day! We are done! Buona notte!!

We experienced Italia at is best. Great cities like Torino a jewel! La Spezia, Pisa, and Figline near Florence. The daily tours were well balanced and we were spoiled with a very knowledgeable and very nice Tour Director. The Hotels were very well chosen with all amenities and very bountiful breakfasts.

Greve in Chianti was beautiful and so relaxing. Loved just wondering the streets. I would have loved La Morra too had the weather been better to allow us to see the views and wonder the streets. Also enjoyed Figline’s quaintness and being able to easily walk from the hotel.

Loved the Cinque Terre scenic boat ride. Enjoyed visiting the two villages. Awesome tour guide. Also, had a great time cooking with Giada at the Tuscan villa. Learned the history of Lucas city. The tour guide was superb. He was very knowledgeable and made the history fun. Overall, I enjoyed the trip very much. Didn't like the dinners that were served at the hotels. Foods were bland, burnt, dried and low quality. Breakfast at the hotels were great. There were many great selection for everyone to choose from.

I enjoyed the Italian Villa and the cooking class that we had thee and I liked walking around the second town we stopped in in Cinque Terra. Even though you didn't ask, I will mention that more should have been mentioned about the bathroom facilities in one town that turned out to be a sink in the ground. Since there were some elderly with canes, it might have been nice to be forewarned. The accommodations could use some grab bars in the shower areas, especially those with marble floors which become slipperty.

I didn't like the last villa we stayed in. It was pretty shabby. The only redeeming quality is the food was very good. I think the cooking demo could have been improved or replaced. There were too many people for that kind of demo.

Laura was a wonderful tour manager!! She made everything fun and easy!! The cooking class and stay at the Villa near Florence was outstanding, a highlight. Also the wine tasting and lunch at the Vineyard was amazing too. We also enjoyed the olive oil tasting. Florence was the only disappointment, guide was difficult to understand and that made the tour seem long and meaningless. Laura and the bus driver were terrific!!!!

In the past Collette tours, interesting places were included. In this tour for an AAPR tour, it was all walking by interesting places. In Florence, we only spent the afternoon and our hotel was 30 miles away! I was very disappointed in this tour. The layover between flights was too short, everyone needed to run to the next plane(AARP trip!)

My rating had nothing to do with Collette. As a tour leader of my group I experienced, lost boarding passes (causing me and the traveler to miss our connection to Milan), a lost passport ( for which I had to spend hours in the American Consulate in Florence) and a stolen passport (causing the traveler to have to remain in Italy with the group that was extending the tour in Rome. Our tour manager, Luigi, was exceptional in helping with all of that.

What is essentially an outdoor tour was run during the rain season and there were no provisions for indoor activities if weather was too severe to be outside, which happened in this case. One day in particular we were stuck in the hotel with no entertainment facilities and no Wi-Fi, torrential downpours almost all day; it was a completely wasted day.

Critique: There were no suggestions for things to do on the days we were on our own - only a lunch or a dinner at a restaurant or just walk the streets (which actually wasn't a bad thing to do). We were on our own to research alternatives. Also, if we wanted to visit a museum (Florence), the only option was individual purchases of tickets. Why did we not have the option to go as a group that would have given us a preferential group visit? Cinque Terre - why wasn't it suggested to us that instead of following the guide up the steep hill, we could take a ferry and see all 5 towns from the Mediterranean. All in all, the visit to Italy was a memorable experience.

The only downside of the trip was not having enough time to spend in certain areas, It would have been nice to have a down day in the Tuscan region to enjoy the pool etc. at our last hotel. With that being said the trip was great and I'm sure planned to see as much as possible. We would definitely travel with Collette again.

My favorite day was when I took the day "off", and sat under an olive tree at the Villa all by myself. All day. Second favorite part was exploring Cinque Terre.

Our tour guide, Dario Panniello was excellent! He was knowledgeable, friendly, and enjoyable to be around. The local tour guides were very good as well. They definitely had a lot to share about the specific areas we toured.

We especially enjoyed our trip to Cinque Terre and the Grand Albergo Hotel in Sestri Levante (with the balcony overlooking the Mediterranean). We also loved the medieval city of Lucca....loved the shops and our lunch at an outdoor café.

I thought it was an excellent tour and our guide Sibila Cincotti was phenominal! We covered sooo much in the short amount of time we were there. One of our first stops allowed for about 4 hours of shopping and I felt that was just too much time. The only thing I really wanted to express is that the bus driver should have assisted more people (older) with a hand off the bus. Also, some of the local guides did a good job accounting for people, however, there were older individuals in our group that struggled to keep up even after asking the guide to slow the pace just a bit. At times the guide would stop at different intervals to wait for them to catch up but only to immediately continue on once the slower individuals managed to catch up. This never gave them time to recover and I felt bad for them!

This trip to Italy was such a marvelous experience, I wanted for nothing, Collette provided for us like we were royalty, the accommodations were first class and our tour guide should win a hospitality award, he was always willing to help in any situation. All travel materials showed up in a timely manner. The website had good information for us to plan our trip. One area that I feel could be improved - and this may be more of a matter of the way that Auburn University Alumni Assoc. set things up. Anyway, we had the impression that this trip was just for Auburn alumni. However, we didn't find out that was not the case (only 3 travelers out of 40) a few days before trip departure. Also, it was not clear (to me at least) that the outbound airport transportation was originating in Auburn, AL......I believe the literature just stated "local" airport transportation. To me, local is local to me. Well, we live in Atlanta area, close to the airport, and it would make no sense to drive 2.5 hours to Auburn just to ride a shuttle back to Atlanta airport. When I called Collette to find out when we would be picked up at our house - I found out that local meant Auburn, AL. So, I canceled that part of our trip, and did receive a refund. I think the "local" details could have been communicated a bit more clearly. I think I am fairly intelligent, and traveled for a living until recently, so I don't think it is an issue of me not understanding the situation - but, it could be!!

The start off meals and accommodations were first rate. The second hotel was on par to the Red Roof- staff was useless -Food was awful. Pace was hurried. Not enough time to really enjoy any of the venues. Our witty guide, Kathleen made the trip more bearable. Unfortunately, I am used to traveling solo with my backpack and a Lonely Planet guide. I felt it was way overpriced for the actual experience.

I thought we would taste more local food and wines. Everything was tailored to American tourists. Best part was breaking away to explore with another adventurous traveller.

Our trip to Tuscany in September of 2018 was a wonderful experience. The transfers, guides and hotels were well - planned. The meals and locations were over the top! I also loved the time we were given on our own to explore. The schedule was not too rigid that I felt stressed or pressured.

We were able to experience a great deal of Italy in a limited amount of time. Although we have discussed many times the trip and all of the scenic and historical highlights, we are unable to say definitively which part was our favorite. We loved the tour and looked forward to each day's new adventure.

The connecting flight from London to Pisa did not give us enough time at Heathrow to make the connection even though the plane was on time. Collette should have known that connections in Heathrow need time.

The guide was wonderful and became a friend to us all. She worked well with the local guides and helped anytime there was a glitch in a situation. She was great at keeping us moving and seeing all we could while in a specific area.Transportation was on time. Bus driver was great. We had a wonderful first time experience in Italy. I can't brag on her enough. The tour was more than we expected.

The tour manager, Dan, was exceptional. Of course, it didn't hurt that the places visited (Tuscany and the Italian Riviera) were also exceptional! But, Dan was the one who made 43 people a cohesive group excited to be where we were. He called me to introduce himself 4 days before the tour started - that was heart-warming that he thought to do that and made me feel welcome and in the right hands. His attention to detail was extraordinary and he even stayed up the whole last night of the tour to ensure that everyone got off on time - and we all left at different times.

Favourite memorable experience was the winery and tasting in Tuscany. The wine and the owner were great, but it was the typical Tuscan view from the winery that made it all worthwhile!

First of all our tour director, Daniel Boghen was absolutely amazing! He took care of everyone and everything down to the tee. He was so knowledgeable and we would do any tour again if we knew he would be in charge. The hotels and restaurants were all wonderful as well as the sights that we toured.

The hotels were clean and the staff were friendly, helpful and the food was good. The manager was very professional friendly and has a lot of knowledge on the different cities that I saw. The coach was always very clean.

My favorite part of the trip was going to the winery in Tuscany and learning and sampling different organic wines, olive oils, cheeses, bread. I also enjoyed Cinque Terre especially Vernazza, Manarola.

The tour guide Mattia De Carlo was very knowledgeable and professional. The bus driver, Enzo Della Corte was attentive and was impressed with his driving skills, especially on the narrow crazy roads and highways and he should get a medal for his safety awareness. The staff for both hotels were very courteous and professional and all of the food was delicious!

Well planned and organized tour considering it was a fast paced tour. The hotel in Artimino was in an idyllic location and suited the ambiance of Tuscany perfectly. Steve Walker, our Tour Director has a great comedic personality and at the same time completely in control of any guests who may not be timely and ensured they understand how important it is to be on time.

YES ,From the travel agent Duane MacCeachren to the best of the very best tour guide that was so full of not just where we were going or where we were Evin was like a whole encyclopedia of information and history as well as so up on current events taking place where ever we toured. On a scale of 10 being the highest rating Mr. Kilgore deserves a 1,000. What a fabulous personality as well. Our bus driver Raffaelle was not just an amazing well talented driver but had the most wonderful personality. We 48 passengers got together and tipped our tour manager Mr Kilgore and Raffaele far over expected and we saw the shock and gratefulness as well as verbal from them both. Our hotel stays were excellent so was the foods served and the overall tour was absolutely a wonderful memorable experience.

I loved the location of the hotel in Tuscany. It was so peaceful. One thing I disliked but not something that Collette can control were the aggressive panhandlers trying to sell you scarves and purses in Florence and Pisa. Some would even follow even though I said I wasn't interested.

The Tour Director was excellent. he was clear, concise and very informative. He went out of his way to assist everyone for whatever needs that they had. The tour itself was excellent. It was high paced with a great deal of walking. Plenty to see. All of the meals that Collette arranged were very good to outstanding. The only criticism that I have and the reason that I did not rate the trip "Outstanding" is because of the terrible communication and lack of response at the Hotel Artimino. We went there one day early and tried to make arrangements in advance to go to Florence to see "David'. They promptly replied to my e-mail and said that they could arrange it for us upon arrival. When we arrived, they had no idea what I was talking about and I showed them their e-mail. They said that they would check and get back to me. It never happened!!! Very disappoined!!! We wasted a day.

It was an amazing tour!!! Our guide and bus driver went above and beyond to make sure our tour was memorable. Very knowledgeable about the area, with lots of added bits that made you want to visit again.

We were told that the Tour Manager would meet us at the airport but instead a non Collette employee shuttle bus driver met us. This person was very rude and lacked the most basic interpersonal skills. He never told us who he was, we did not meet the "real TM" until me arrived at our hotel. Although this was not a Collette employee, it was our first impression upon starting the tour, so it still reflects on Collette as a company. If we had been warned ahead that it could be a Tour Manager or an outside company meeting us at the airport, that would have set the right expectation. -

Overall the tour was amazing, the sites were incredible. The various personalities of the people on the tour provided, additional flavor, fun and excitement to the experience. The pacing of the tour could have been better. For example, after a red-eye flight, we only had a half hour before the welcome dinner. (and our flight was on time) This trend continued throughout the week where there was not enough time to change cloths and freshen up before dinner.

We made the mistake. The Italy trip was rated a "4" activity, and we found that too much sightseeing was put on too few days. We must have walked 3-4 miles per day and were simply exhausted at the end of the tour. I have since been suffering through a terrible cold since arriving home.

The group size was to big, There is nothing personal about a group that size. When a group is this big you stand on many lines, bathrooms etc. You can't get on the elevators without waiting on many lines because the size of the elevators are small. Both hotels were nice but the service the hotels gave wasn't good.

The tour guide had a rotation system that was not fair for the size of the group and length of the trip. I complained to him because on this rotation we would be in the back of the bus for the whole tour.He agreed with me then had us sit in the front 1/2 of the bus for one 20 minute trip then he went back to his rotation system that put us in the back. I complained again and he moved us up front for another trip about 45 minutes but never for the day. He was nice and had a lot of knowledge but this is not fair.
