We did not have enough time at many of the stops and often arrived at our hotel too early. We did not see Glenfinnin and later learned one of the travelers rented a cab to take her there and back to the town of Ft. William where we were dropped off for several hours which was a wasted day. It was a long day riding the bus to and back from our hotel. Too litte time at Dunrobin Castle and Culloden also. Isle of Sky was a disappointment. Drove around on the bus, the guide was ok, then dropped off for lunch. Dropped off at Inverness. Liked Orkney Islands. Food and service were good at all but one place where our ordered dinner in their restaurant got lost /misplaced. Breakfasts were great. The scenery was fantastic traveling through the countryside. Bagpiper was wonderful for our extra Scottish Night Out dinner, but the food wasn't great, and there was no stage for the Scottish dancers to show us their footwork. Edinburgh Castle was memorable, but the crowds were huge.

I hardly ever rate anything excellent - there were some things I would improve to make sure the person touring got the most out of their days - the local tour guides could have done their tour BEFORE we went to the Edinburgh Castle and that would have left us more time to explore on our own. It was a bit rushed and we hardly got to see the castle.

Well-orgamizef, excellent tour manager. Orkney Islands tour and sheepdog demo were among the highlights of the tour. Weather was horrible and completely ruined Isle of Skye visit, but Collette had no control over the weather and the fact that it rained at least part of every day.

There were some issues with the pre-trip to London (not having tickets for the train to Glasgow until less than an hour before departure) and some issues with the meal situation on the Orkney Island part of the tour that resulted in a rating of less than 5.

Great tour with lots to see/do, yet ample free time. Very comfortable coach. 2 of the places we stayed were “quaint” but with decent bathrooms and comfortable beds, good food. Loved the Orkney Islands-the people, the shopping, the scenery, the ferry ride up there. Really enjoyed seeing the Italian Chapel ( just read a historical fiction book that talked about that) The sheep herding and shearing was wonderful. There wasn’t a place on this tour I would have eliminated-it was all interesting, gorgeous scenery. Great info from tour guides. It’s wonderful that the local artists are supported. This was a nice mix of city and country!

We got a very good view of many places in Scotland…big cities, highland areas, small towns, islands, and sea coast. The local tour guides were excellent and gave us the real feel of how life was/ is in those places. Kim had a wealth of history which really brought every place to life. My favorite place was the Orkneys. I knew very little about them before the trip. Their Nordic history was fascinating. Their military importance was a surprise to me. What a beautiful, peaceful area of Scotland!

Seems like the route could have been planned better. We were in Inverness then drive 2 hours to Castletown and the back tracked to Inverness. There was a lot of bus time wish made it feel rushed when we were able to stop. Sarah was good but she had a big job with over 40 passengers. She was VERY organized. I’m comparing this trip to the Shades of Ireland. We had about 18 tourists and probably a smaller area to tour. My experiences may not be very comparable. I would much prefer a smaller group.

The Tour manager was exceptional. The breakfasts were pretty repetitive and it would have been nice to have healthier options. More fresh fruit and grains. Some of the hotels were pretty dated but that did add to the charm. Would of enjoyed more time in Inervess (spelling) and more time in the town on Skye. On Skye it was too much time on the bus.

Most hotel were good and in good locations except for the one in Thurso which was far below Collette's standards. It was a dump bathroom no toilet paper holder, place to put clothes or shelve for toiletries Windows were painted shut and no fans during a heat wave..

Very well planned out. We probably saw 3/4 of the country. Tour Manager Richard was great, knowledgable, helpful. Accomadations were for the most part great. My first time on a "tour" and I was really apprehensive of being with a whole bus load of people Turned out the people were half the great experience Would do it again.

Overall, enjoyable trip. Lots of beautiful countryside. Very nice tour manager and coach driver. Food about average. Took a looong time for Collette-provided dinner service at two hotels. First two days had some wasted time - too much driving up and down same road. This tour had much more coach travel time than other Collette trips, but apparently necessary due to agenda. This was our ninth Collette tour.

I enjoyed Scotland very much. Loved the castles we visited and enjoyed the sheep demonstration at the farm. Enjoyed the ferry ride and overall just had a very good time - would recommend it highly. One a couple bad experiences - one in England when the transport driver dropped us off at the wrong train station, couple of the hotels did not have elevators and that was a problem for some of the travelers. The second night before we left the included dinner was not the best, no room for everyone to sit at the same time and food served was skimpy and not up to Collette's standards

Too much traveling on the bus each and every day. Would have preferred to spend more time at the visited sites, and given more time to shop, walk around, and options to NOT participate. Suggest when time is being spent at locations, book more than one night in that locations. We were always having to hurry to use the restroom (toilets didn't work or there was no paper) and then no time to shop, we had to hurry back to the bus. Getting up so early EVERY MORNING was a bummer. Vacations are also for resting, not GO GO GO. Most of my pictures are through a bus window. The food was the same EVERY DAY. A variety would have been better. I would not do a bus tour again nor would I recommend it. I felt like I was a prisoner.

We were expecting a trip that showed us the country and its' varied aspects - a cross section of Scotland. That is exactly what we got. Our tour guide had a vast knowledge of the country and doled it out neatly over the entire trip. The sheep dog demonstration, alone was worth the trip.

All the accomodations were fine. However the shower floors often lacked a good anti-slip product. The tour director and bus driver were exemplary! The bags were all transferred as indicated. I also would have liked more vegetables, fresh and cooked, on the buffet tables. The serving staff and food were also excellent. I would take another Collette tour sometime soon.

The arrangements for us were well planned and interesting. The tour director helped to make accomodations for us with limited mobility issues. The bus driver was funny besides being very skilled in maneuvering all the tight turns and traffic. Stops on the tour were historic and very interesting.

The hotel transfers to and from airports were punctual.Drivers were pleasant.The hotels were all fine.Laura Goodman,our guide,was excellent company,Knowledgable about Scotland's history and had a lovely sense of humor.,Our driver was very good with a nice sense of humor too.Both local guides in Edinburgh for the walking tour and the elderly lady in the Orkneys,were super.The shepherd who showed us how border collies work sheep was memorable.He put on a good show..I loved the ferry rides,mountains,lochs,cutel towns.It was all good.

I had a terrible experience with the travel agent associated with Collette. I was very careful to keep my dissatisfaction contained because my husband and I wanted to make sure that the trip happened. We will never use a travel agent associated with collette again. The tour itself was good but the tour guides were mediocre. The guides at Orkney and walking tour in Edinburgh were excellent. All other guides were mediocre.

No one got lost, rushed to hospital, lost anything nor was injured.

John Firth met us at the Edinburgh airport with transportation. The whole trip went equally smoothly.

The visit to the Orkney Isles was the highlight. The Italian Chapel, of which I'd seen photos and the Neolithic Village were alone worth the trip.

Trip was ok...definitely not my favorite tour...not enough time at each site to explore, have lunch, and shop. This was true for nearly all the sites visited. The tour seemed rushed, and would benefit from another day added to the schedule.

Not my favorite tour...meals were generally ok...included sites were good, but required more time to enjoy properly. Taste of Scotland, the Distillery, and the International Piping Center could easily have been omitted.

My wife and I had one complaint. Believe we were the oldest on the tour. I'll be 93 on Dec. 5 and my wife is 76. There were too many activities packed into one day. We would have liked to have some "free time" to relax. By the time we had dinner we were drop dead tired.

Loved the tour. The whole trip was a highlight for me. Glasgow and Edinburgh were very interesting and explorable, loved the highlands, breathtaking scenery, and who doesn’t like the sight of a castle or palace and its history. I would love to go back.

Tour manager was knowledgeable and generally congenial, although not a Scot (he had lived there for one year some time ago). Local guides were good; transportation by buses was fine.

Good trip for someone who wants to travel with a large group. Trip did not allow for significant time with local people or opportunities for cultural experiences. For example, bagpiping demonstration consisted of watching/listening to a bagpiper, opportunity for everyone to briefly make sounds with a chanter, then on to dinner!

I loved visiting the Orkney Islands—amazing experience. That said, we didn’t have a lot of down time to just explore places on our own. The accommodations and included meals in Thurso left a lot to be desired. I would strongly encourage Collette to find alternate lodging in that part of Scotland; the Royal Thurso was a real low point.

Airline not good.

I was happy with the tour, but not with the airline KLM. They lost my luggage or in fact it did not even get on the plane and then it took 3 days and many calls by the tour guide to get it to me 3 plus hours out of Glasglow. The guide was great and very helpful. On the way home it took 2 hours to get a frozen screen fixed and my travel companion had to go up and ask for help twice.

A wonderful tour & great accommodations, except for the hotel in Thurso.

I loved our guide! He was like reading an Encyclopedia! He was so informative & funny & & knew something about everything & everybody! All of our guides were good! The only downside was one hotel in Thurso that was owned, by an Indian man, was absolutely horrible! The commodes wouldn’t flush, the shower wouldn’t work, the floor was uneven, the alarm kept going off because of steam in the room and they were totally unprepared for that big a group, in the dinning room! They ran out of plates, out of cream, out of coffee, out of food & if you complained to the manager he was hateful. This was so far below Collett’s standard! I would have rather driven out of our way than to stay there! Other than this one place, everything was great! Yes I would recommend Y’all, to anyone, as a tour!

Tour guide and coach driver were great. The country was beautiful. BUT too much time on the coach and very short time when we stopped. Would have liked more time in the two major cities at the beginning and end of the trip. Two of the hotels were terrible. Military Tatoo was excellent.

Excellent tour but lots of time on the bus

The best part of taking the Discover Scotland tour in August is seeing the Military Tattoo and attending events of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in your free time. The downside is that Scotland is very crowded in August. The itinerary of the Collette tour encompasses a lot of Scotland which means lots of time on the bus and limited time to rest at night or visit attractions during the stops. I found myself nodding off on the bus (along with others) and missing the beautiful scenery of Scotland. Perhaps the itinerary could be tweaked to allow more time spent at sites. The tour guide and bus driver were excellent. My only suggestion would be to use a card system to rotate seats on the bus. The tour guide left the shuffle on the honor system which didn’t work. A large group traveling together was always at the front of the bus, albeit one day.

The sheepdog demonstrations, falconry demonstration, Meghan Markle’s wedding dress on display at Holyroodhouse, Military tattoo. I could have skipped St. Andrews and the ferry ride at Loch Ness. The ferry was so crowded that I could barely catch a glimpse of the scenery. Accommodations in Thurso were abysmal. I love charming and quaint hotels but the Muthu Royal Thurso was dated, unsafe (no key card, deadbolt, or peephole) and unacceptable.

I think this is my first tour with Collette where included venues consisted of a ticket and a touristy recorded-tour box. No matter how well these tour in a box are made, I was very much put off by not having a local guide I could interact with. Had I known, I'd have arranged my own local guide at Edinburgh castle and culloden battlefield for example. Instead I felt value was missing.

Scotland is one of those magical destinations. It is so full of history and rugged beauty. The sound of the bagpipes, the clan tartans, castles, and cuisine add so much to the experience. The Military Tattoo was definitely a highlight on this tour as well as the visits to Orkney Island and the Isle of Skye.

Hotel accomodations ranged from plush to quaint and all were comfortable and clean with great service. The tour bus was spotless and ran well.The schedule was a little to tight for my taste with personal time limited. The guide was a history encyclopedia and shared his info freely. Tour manager was very good. The hotel at Thurso was not satisfactory. We have stayed in Quaint local hotels with other tour groups. This hotel was not that. The dinner and the breakfast were close to inedible. Really! Opening a can of oranges for the fruit at breakfast?

The tour guide was less than desirable and often provided misinformation about Scotland. We learned quickly that if we wanted factual answers about all things Scotland, we needed to ask our transportation driver who was a Scot. On a sweeter note, our local guides were OUTSTANDING and the scenery and attractions made the trip memorable!!

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo was an unforgettable experience! The Highlands and Orkney Islands were also amazing. The overall pace could have been a little more relaxed but we did cover lots of ground in 7 days.

Our tour manager was awful. She was very disorganized and she did not give clear instructions. This was our 10th trip with Collette and she was the worst tour manager we have ever had. The bus driver and the two local guides were excellent . The hotels in the Highlands were in bad condition. The toilet in our room at the Grant Arms Hotel didn’t flush properly. We reported it to the hotel management twice and they did nothing to correct this problem. The Ballachulish Hotel had mold and mildew in the bathroom and around the window in the bedroom. The water from all the faucets in the bathroom was a brown, rusty color. The other Collette guests had the same problem at this hotel. This was the worst experience we have had on any of your trips.

A once in a lifetime trip... just breath taking.

The castles. It would be helpful to have scooters/or motorized wheelchairs for individuals requiring assistance. I was not able to attend two functions because I could not walk the hills. I would have been happy to pay to rent a scooter where I could attend those events.

As a past guest many times on Collette Tours the Hotel Ballachulish, and Pentland Hotel, were far BELOW the standards of a Collette tour. The "Farewell Dinner' at a cooking school which I found very un-professional as far as the demonstration went, also served only one Entre "chicken". If you did not like chicken or are a vegetarian you had a bad final experience. They also served only one glass of wine, if you wanted another you had to pay for it...please it's a Farewell Dinner! I've been on many Collette Tours and the Farewell Dinners were memorable.

Too many stops for bathrooms and shopping.

We were disappointed that the first day of the your was pretty much on our own. We arrived on Sunday, others not until Monday afternoon. Day one of the tour should have been Tuesday, Monday was a wash, being our second day on our own in Glasgow.

The first three days were “uneventful”. Stops were not that interesting. Ruins of a castle, basically three walls, was a disappointment. Cultural experiences with the locals would have been enjoyable. Sheep dog trainer and demonstration was the highlight of our trip .... that says a lot.

Collette...great. Delta Airlines...yuck!

Tour managers and bus drivers are always professional, knowledgeable and courteous. I enjoy learning about the history and customs of the people in the country I am visiting. I would have appreciated more free time in the area near each hotel. I realize this may necessitate cutting back on the distance travelled. My biggest complaint is with Delta airlines. After booking this trip months in advance, my husband and I were not assigned any seats on the planes going and returning. Consequently, we were given last row seats where the seats didn’t recline an inch! Not too comfortable on a long flight. My husband and I both have Known Traveller Numbers (TSA Pre). I checked with Collette before leaving to make sure they had the numbers and was assured they were submitted to Delta. They were not on our boarding passes leaving Buffalo, and not on my husbands when we returned. This has happened to us and our traveling companions before on other Delta flights scheduled through Collette. Please check into why this is occurring.

My trip to Scotland was most enjoyable. A most beautiful country of green spacious landscapes, and welcoming people. Collette was well organized, and overall the trip was smooth sailing. Our tour guide and driver were very knowledgeable on the history, towns, castles and everything Scotland. I have only one suggestion....more time for each stop...I realize that is not possible...I just wanted to see more of each visit.

Surprising Scotland

Scotland, especially the Highlands, is a picturesque and historical country. The lochs, lambs, landscapes and looming castles are lovely. The bagpipes, accordions and dancing are lively. Collette scheduled some wonderful outings to Skye and Orkney Islands. The hotels were nice, my favorite being Ballchulish. Our guide, Lorraine gave us valuable free time activities and also a wonderful historical background to research later. From Thomas Telford, who built the Caledonian Canal, connecting the lochs, to prehistoric Sara Brae and the Ring of Brogar to Saint Margaret the female patron saint of Scotland and the clock in The Edinburgh Castle being the oldest part of this eclectic symbol there was much to appreciate. I enjoyed the haggis, Scottish Salmon, single malt whiskey, hikes led by Lorraine, sheep shearing, The Willows in Glasgow for tea and so much more. Thank you, Collette!

Our Collette Distillery Tour of Scotland was one of the best trips I've ever taken. The weather was perfect and the scenery was beautiful! Our tour guide, Lorraine, had her act together and was fun to be with. Everything ran like clockwork. I'd travel with Collette again.

The tour was fantastic, visiting historical sites and fun options. My most memorable experience was very personal. While in Edinbergh I went to the Scottish Registry and found where my great-grandfather lived and the church where he worshiped. Both his home and his church were qithin a block of our hotel.

Our guide made the trip!

I really enjoyed our tour with Collette! Our guide, Laura, made our tour FANTASTIC! She really took our tour to the next level with all of her information and story telling. My only reason I gave this review 4 stars is because the other guests on the tour were not the best. A lot of complaining and negative comments out of a lot of the guests on the tour, about the hotels we were staying at mainly. Aside from the other guests on the coach, this tour and Collette was overall an amazing experience. From the excursions we did, the travel days had the perfect amount of stops, lots of time for shopping, very informative on how long we'll be driving for and to maybe grab your lunch at this spot, and like I said, Laura was the cherry on top. Her knowledge, her passion for Scotland, her stories were intriguing and left me wanting to know more, and she was just so kind and caring and accommodating to all of her guests. Brilliant woman.

Everything we did was so well mapped out. The driving times weren't too much, we had enough stops, we had plenty of time for lunches and shopping and never felt rushed, and we saw some incredible things! Learned a lot from our wonderful guide, and truly feel that I experienced Scotland to the fullest. My favorite experience on the trip was two things. Dunrobin Castle was fantastic, and watching the falconry show was spectacular! We had just the perfect amount of time there that I didn't feel rushed or that I had to miss out on anything. And we had the best bowl of tomato soup there that I've ever had in my life! I also LOVED the sheepdog farm experience!! It was so fascinating learning about the dogs and watching the dogs bring in the sheep to every command of their owner. It was amazing. And we got to cuddle puppies at the end of it!!!

It was a great tour! However, WestJet was not reliable cancelled two of our flights, It would have been nicer to have one direct flight, It was very exhausting,and irritating trying to arrive at our destination. Air Canada would be better to make deals with your company. Overall the trip itself was amazing!

1. There were 33 Canadians on the trip, including "Lady Gaga,er paparazzi and fan club. They were often loud in the dining rooms and bus. On my last trip with Collette, we had 32 on the trip, and it was very nice. Why couldn't you have given the TV star et al their own trip? 2. Our director was sick. She had a terrible cold and unending cough. She had to contend with the above crowd and try to communicate her vast amount of historical knowledge to those who were very interested in what she had to say. 3. One dinner entrée was inedible. If you ordered the cod, which was a roll of cod, you didn't get a full meal, and there was no alternative offered. 4. My purse was stolen in the crowded customs area. It contained my new camera purchased for the trip. I cannot get through the red tape of the insurance to see if they were reimburse me. 5. The day going to Orkney was disappointing. The weather was awful. It was a day of waiting to get on and off the boat and then a trip where hardly anyone coule go outside and the rest could not see through the windows. We only saw a Quonset hut which Italian POW's had fitted for a church and Neolithic ruins. I think the day could have been spent much better going to 2 or 3 homes and castles.

Long airport waits and delays

The flight booked was terrible. Layover between second flight was ten hours. They could have set up fewer flights, more direct routes. Some travellers in the group were elderly and the delays in connection times made a 22 hour travel day - exhausting. I would have paid more money to have fewer connections. Our first flight from Ottawa to Toronto was also canceled and it took too long for Collette tours to respond. I booked my own flight on an alternate airline.

Tour guide was excellent. We covered lots of sites. The bus broke down once which caused a delay, but it was not a long delay. I enjoyed going to the Orkney Islands and the working sheep dog farm.

I can't think of anything that was not excellent - we had such a wonderful time - all the supplied meals were unique and delicious, the planned activities were fun, unique, interesting and were completed without a "hitch" - the hotel in Thurso was not up to the standard of the rest, but probably the best that was available in that area and was clean and staff were helpful. And, we didn't have to worry about a thing - the tour directors (Mary and Chad) handled everything from the planning to the execution. I would most certainly travel with Mary and Collette again.

THE FOLLOWING HAS THREE PARTS VERY DIFFERENT. The pre trip Colette service was unsatisfactory. My initial phone call for information was handled by a representative who was not encouraging, not informed, not enthusiastic. Had I not been informed by two friends of their successful trips with Collette I would have not continued researching the trip. I continued inquiring and was forward to a David Sklar of AOY?? (sp ?). He was very supportive about of the trip and is the reason why I traveled with Collette. The Tour Manager Lauran Goodman was SUPERB. I can't say enough about her knowledge of Scotland and its History, her managerial skills and her consideration of the individual. Send me a list of the tours see leads and I'll take them. I have traveled to all 7 Continents but rarely on tours of your composition, she has changed my mind.

The itinerary was excellent. As I review the trip I can't list a favorite. I'm amazed at all we did, so many fascinating stops framed by a our Historian who set the stage for the importance to Scotland's history.

Great tour. All of the pre trip instructions were clear and concise. Flights and connections were good. In country tour guide and bus driver Frank were exceptional. A variety of things to see and do. Great hotels and meals. Plenty of stops for restrooms and souvenirs

The bus that left us off at Miami airport parked very far from the departure area and we could not find the bus on our return trip to Miami. Very unorganized, which made for long walks for senior citizens which was very bad!,

Loved the Ireland trip.

Loved the Ireland trip.The only thing I had trouble with was the pick-up at SFO. No one answered the phone numbers given and the location instructions were incorrect. When I did respond to the original text, I received a phone call right back and a pick-up within 15 min.

For me the highlands were the best, sheep dog farm, and ridding the ferries. History was very good. Very rushed, and not active enough for me, plus very clickily groups, didn't fit in. To much bus ridding. The group too big (41) hard to manage.

Loved Orkney Island and especially the Italian chapel. Please note: would be helpful if upon start of tour, the tour manager would give out rating sheets for each hotel so we could do it upon leaving. I always forget to make notes on the accomodations and they all run together by the end of the trip when they ask for our ratings.

Great trip!

The guide, Laura, was great! She was always on top of things and very caring and considerate, The bus driver was very skilled and careful. Some of the hotel had issues that could have made the trip more enjoyable, such as problems with toilets, low water pressure, problems with hot water, uncomfortable beds, etc. but we persevered and did not let it spoil our trip. Some of the places in the brochure were not yet opened so the trip may have been planned earlier than it should have been. All in all, it was still a great trip.!

I will not consider Collette in future guided tours.

The company had a lack of timely information. When calling they seemed to not know when information was to be sent or who had the info. Passenger list were not available yet they were given to our tour sponsor well in advance. Tour guide had a lack of knowledge of the area. Tour was rushed with not enough time in stops for lunch and too much time spent in other areas.

The Orkney Islands and the ruins there. Also the church built by war prisoners.

The trip to Scotland went to places that other companies do not, Orkney Islands, Ilse of Skye, the sheep farm, absolutely fantastic. Our tour guide and coach driver were both very experienced, 20+ years, knew each other well and gave insites to Scotland that we would have not gotten on our own.

Scotland 101 in 8 Days

This was a well put together trip. Our guide Laura Goodman was outstanding and passionate about Scotland, which she shared through her enthusiasm. The trip had a lot packed into a little time and I tend to call it the Scotland 101 trip. This is the first trip we have taken where it was on a formal tour. The good part was that we saw much more than we could have had we planned out our trip on our own. The downside (which is why it is 4 stars) is the inability to linger at any spot if we found it to be more interesting.

Possibly the most memorable experience was at Culloden on the battlefield. Seemed very much like Gettysburg, vast and sobering.

Amazing Journey of a lifetime

Excellent tour that takes you on important highlights of Scotland. Insight into the history, and the current life made this trip what I wanted. What a beautiful country. Our tour manager was excellent. Some hotels had challenged plumbing but that was the only concern. All details otherwise flowed perfectly.

Service was great; guide was excellent; too much time on the bus

Collette was wonderful helping us make deviated arrangements and we really appreciated that. The trip just had too much time on the bus and part of the journey was doing some unnecessary back tracking. Several of the hotels were only mediocre.

Wonderful Discover Scotland Trip

My husband and I recently returned from the Discover Scotland trip. Our tour manager Curtis was exceptional. He was very well organized and kept us well informed of our schedules. The trip exposed us to almost the entire country which was beautiful. Besides the "normal" stops of a distillery, a sheep dog demonstration, bagpiping, and various castles, we saw the Ring of Brogdar, St. Andrew's golf course etc. The itinerary gave us a good flavor of the country and all it has to offer. We would definitely recommend this trip! Arrive early and see some of Glasgow on your own. The visit to St. Andrew's is short for a golf lover, though.

Seeing the Ring of Brodgar was amazing. To see something similar to Stonehenge that is over 5000 years old is awesome. My husband loved the quick visit to St. Andrew's and enjoyed taking pictures on the "bridge" near the 18th hole.

Good, only because of the lodging options, everything else was excellent.

All aspects of the trip were well done...registration, communication, expert guide services . An area of improvement would be to evuate and upgrade lodging in non-urban settings. The lodging was on the level of backwoods camping rather than clean, accessible, comfortable lodging. This responsibility is not the guide , rather the product group level...do it for the benefit of travelers and Collette!!

Appreciated the rather complete tour of Scotland. We enjoyed the Orkney Islands the most. The scenery was exceptional, lots of daffodils and other flowers, green pastures, sheep and villages.

Everything was wonderful, the tour director was fabulous the venue was great, but the bus ride for many of the days, was just awful. Lots of people including my husband and I were Car Sick.......the Bus Driver Should Have been CHANGED. He slowed down every time a vehicle passed us....the roads were narrow, etc... I just wanted to GO HOME. Because of his erratic driving style, this trip made me nervous to GET ON THE BUS.

As a travel consultant for many years I have visited over 70 countries on many tours. This was one of the best ever. It occurred because of the tour guide, ******* *********, who was fabulous and the overall itinerary. Sometimes it is the luck of the draw and we had a very compatible group. I have taken a number of Collette tours and have always been happy with all the info sent to me before my trip about the area I'm traveling to and the tour itself, and their tour guides have been top notch.

The tour guide was very knowledgable and worked hard to make sure we got everywhere on time. The hotels we stayed at were very nice. My only problem with this tour was that there were too many stops - we couldn't spend any decent amount of time in one place and were constantly on the move.

The service was perfect. Our guide, April, always pair attention to detail. I don't think I can even think about anything that she failed to share. Excellent shopping tips and suggestions to eat lunch when we were on our own in the various lunchtime stops in villages.

Overall the tour was excellent. My only disappointment was the optional "Night out on the Town" in Edinburgh. I expected to visit local pubs/restaurants to "rub elbows" with local residents and was so disappointed with the venue we were bussed to. It was over priced for the quality. The entertainment was right out of Battle Creek. The food was mediocre at best and the tables were dirty. Very disappointing.

Pluses and Minuses

The overall trip was fine, but we downgraded them because of some problems. The tour manager was, on occasion downright rude.
Trip Rating:

Some of the hotels were not good, uncontrollable heat, locked fire doors and slow inefficient dining service. One even had a locked fire door discovered by us when the alarm sounded at 5 a.m. Oothers were excellent. The tour manager was the worst I have experienced in many escorted tours. Did resolve service issues and rushed us out of the "farewell" dinner just as dessert was served to our table. This at a meal where we sat for 20+ minutes between courses.

Excellent service; good variety of destinations; trip well planned (2 days usually at most cities); good balance of tour and personal time spent. However, the best for us was the tour guide, April Smith. She was pleasant, well informed and approachable.

Edinburgh. We were fortunate enough to be at the Tattoo when Prince Charles and Prince William attended. During our free time in Edinburgh we purchased a Bus Day Pass and travelled to Musselburgh to visit the home of our grandparents who have passed. We stopped into a local pub as well and talked to some of the locals. We couldn't have wished for more.

I thought it was a good tour. Food excellent, accommodations for the most part very good. Understand in remote areas the accommodations would be less than Collettes typical standards. The guide was good and perhaps I expected too much as my Collette guide last year was just outstanding. Couldn't hear him about half the time as I was in back of bus most of the trip dud to not great rotation practice. I have very good hearing. Log of people talking while he was talking. Bus driver very good.

Adventure made easy

Collette makes exploring so easy! The upfront booking and processes are simple. They are friendly, courteous, helpful, and responsive, and work well with our local travel agent. This was the second trip we've gone on with them - and both have been amazing. The Discover Scotland journey is chock full of amazing and off-the-beaten-path experiences. You truly get to know the culture, history, and people of a place with them.

Excellent tour director that made everything possible: multi experiences, clarity of information & directions, individual attention, pleasant temperament & humor that I think contributed to the group being harmonious. I was extremely happy,enjoyed the trip & came away w/new knowledge. Good accommodations. Amazing that so many experiences can be had in such a few days which attests to pre-planning & organization. I also appreciate the home pickup & delivery.

Am 91 & reached the point of getting rid of stuff, therefore purchased very little, scarf pin, books, etc. Picking favorite memorable experience is like asking me to pick a favorite child in the family. I truly loved it all. I must say though that I learned & understood the history of ruling Scotland which can be quite complicated. Being able to stand in places of history & imagine is always awesome. God's country of mountains,lakes,trees,etc. magnificent.

The Scottish highlands were incredible. Morning spent on a farm with sheep herding demo and incredible history presentation by a gent with depth of knowledge and a marvelous sense of humor. A real highlight for us.

Great time but exhausting

Accomadations were great--food was fabulous--shows and touring great--the guide was very knowledgable. Long times on the bus and very little down time were an issue for my husband and I..Don't know how you could fix that and still cover all that was covered but we were worn out.

Excellent Tour Introducing the Variety that is Scotland

The appreciated the freedom to have alternative activities....for example, I was able to enjoy a small town rather than go to the whisky distillery. Our tour guide was top notch! She gave us background in understandable "packages: of information that were just right! Once in a while, she played music to enhance the experience of the particular place we were visiting. I especially liked the experiences of the older hotels in the north of Scotland.....to stay where Queen Victoria stayed was a real treat! The visit to Orkney was perfect! Orkney and Edinburgh were the high points of our tour! The local guides really enhanced our experience. I wish we could have visited the seal colony while on Skye. We had already seen several castles by that time. Stopping to really look at Glencoe was something I really enjoyed. The bus, driver and schedule were all fine. The bus was kept clean and was always comfortable. I did not enjoy the opening huge dinner....I think we were all exhausted and it was just too much. Actually, I did NOT like any of the huge hotel dinners. Some were delicious, but unlike most Americans, I do not like having such huge meals night after night. I would much prefer eating smaller meals in pubs or other places where Scottish people actually eat frequently. The visit to the "farm" was a let down. Perhaps I was too tired at this point.

The Scotland tour was very good BUT as part of their inclusive travel plan, Collette refused to provide or reimburse cost of ground transportation from NY airport LGA to NY airport JFK.

Excellent, knowledgeable, attentive tour manager, driver, and local guides gave us an excellent introduction to Scotland with well-chosen stops, tours, and shows. Only drawback was the fast pace which didn't allow for much relaxation nor time for more in-depth looks at itinerary locations - left us wishing we could spend more time at nearly every location along the way.

Our Collette guide did a great job of keeping everyone informed & involved during the entire tour. He was well versed in the sites we visited. If anything, he was to nice to some of the crabby people on the tour. Our driver Frank was also great. He was a good mate for our tour guide during the trip, adding comments & jokes at the appropriate time.

I would have rated it excellent except for the accommodations in Thurso and the boat tour at Loch Lomond. I realize there is a limited choice of accomodatiions in Thurso so your hands are tied there, but the boat cruise was boring. There were few points of interest and I would rather have spent more time at our last hotel which was gorgeous or have taken a trip to Sterling Castle. My favorites were the falconry show, the Orkney Island excursion (extremely interesting), and the sheep dog show.

I wish we had a bit of time in Glasgow, the airport was all we saw; also, a bit more time in Isle of Sky. We thoroughly enjoyed going to a play in Edinburgh and some of travel companions said they would have like to attend also. It was a delightful trip and so glad we went.

Trip of a life time for me!

We were informed and educated about not only about the tour in beautiful northern Scotland but all of our logistical details were taken care of. Brian was as wonderful a guide and host as anyone could hope for and everyone he included from guides, drivers and bag handlers could not have been better.

Edinburgh and everything about it for the time we had was excellent; hotel, time to walk, Spirit of Scotland, Holyrood Palace, The Castle, The Tattoo, and the tour with a Wonder Woman guide through the streets over to New Town with historical and interesting stories. Perfect! Dunrobin Castle and Falconry Show was great. Room was OK at The Royal Hotel in Thurso bath room for me (6'-8" and 250 lbs) was extremely tiny, more like a coat closet. First night sleep here without ear plugs was really bad. Bar half way down the block had patrons smoking outside and walking up to the corner to the stop light under my window to talk and yet out ugly word to each other and that car with loud tail pipe kept circling that block. Second night with ear plugs was better, but in didn't try to get back into that tiny shower. Orkney perfectly fantastic and very interesting and informative. Everything we did on our tour was wonderful. The change for the last day and night was fantastic because the restful beautiful place we stayed was the best ending. The Petard working farm with great tour and history talk was a perfect way to connect to life of Scots back then. I know I missed something in trying to describe the key features of my tour. Plenty of opportunities to purchase anything you desired at many places. I even checked out and will purchase my tartan out of Edinburgh at another visit or order it. This culminated or maybe I should say began my genealogy as a Scot.

Accommodations in Edinburgh were excellent with a location that made attractions and historical sites easily accessible. The hotel in Thurso was somewhat lacking in features, but is understandable due to the somewhat remote location and lack of options in the area. Other accommodations were lovely with amazing locations and excellent service. The included features such as the falconry demonstration and the Highland pipes and dancers were wonderful and increased the authentic feeling of the trip. The boat excursion on Loch Lomond sounded romantic, but was no more than somewhat boring in actuality.

I have been on several Collette tours and this was overall one of the best. Geoff was a wonderful tour guide and did his best to make everyone happy. The tour itself was beautiful wit nice hotels and really good food every night but the last. I loved Scotland and would recommend this tour to family and friends.

Did this trip independent of trip I connected with to Ireland. Difficult to arrange since never talk to same agent. Finally did speak with someone that was helpful.

Overall it was an okay experience. It was somewhat chaotic with the changing of tour managers. He worked to deal with numerous challenges that were further complicated by the bus running out of gas. Many memorable stops and a pleasant group for travel.

Great to see the beautiful countryside

Enjoyed the trip thoroughly but had one concern. On the last day of the tour we visited a farm during our stay at Lock Ard. During our flight back to the US the next morning, we were given a Customs document to complete. One of the questions was whether a farm was visited. It was cause for consternation. Since the sheepdog demonstration was not terribly exciting, having to watch a dog chase three ducks around a well-familiar course, it might help to omit that particular event so close to leaving the country. I might also suggest finding a different hotel in Thurso. We had a room located at the front of the building. Since it was over a Friday/Saturday the young people in town get rowdy.

Loved visiting Orkney. It was a great experience seeing Skara Brae and the not-to-be-missed Italian Church. Also enjoyed the visit to Dunrobin Castle and the falconry demonstration.

Collette, great company, great tours.

We have used Collette for two tours and both have been very nice. We definitely received what we paid for. Both tours were well planned with just the right amount of structured and free time. The tour managers were both skilled and experienced and enhanced our experience. We especially enjoyed our experience with our Discover Scotland tour manager, Marc Pascucci. We definitely recommend Collette and would absolutely buy from them again.

It is hard to select one most memorable experience when the whole tour was so excellent, but touring the Queen's castle and palace in Edinburgh and riding through the beautiful Scottish countryside stand out. Dunrobin Castle was also amazing.

Collette is everywhere in the world I have been, and I have seen their busses in Europe, and Greece and Turkey.

Collette is a very warm hearted travel service and I have taken trips with them many times. They take an interest in me as a tourist, and they want to give me the most for my money. The tours are interesting, and the tour guides work very hard to make sure I have fun, am comfortable, and feel safe. For example, on my last trip, the bus broke down in the middle of nowhere. The tour guide made phone calls and problem solved the situation with confidence. We were underway in 1.5 hours and he adjusted the schedule so that we didn't miss anything.

I loved riding our bus onto a ferry and traveling to the islands north of Scotland. The day on the island was like magic to me and was very different from my own life.

This is a great tour if you want to go far up into the highlands. You see a lot of scenery and historic sites. Our Tour Manager (Marc Pascucci) was wonderful. He was very informative and fun! All the hotels were nice and centrally located, except for The Royal in Thurso. It needs a bit of an overhall, but this can't be helped by Collette, as there isn't much to choose from in that town. This is a tour where you learn about the history of Scotland and see many small villages instead of large cities.

This was my first tour and the tour manager, coach driver, and fellow tour participants made it a most enjoyable experience. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the tour guide answered my unending questions without judgement and that the coach driver, also, was very knowledgeable about Scottish history and readily supplied his input, which was accepted, appreciated and shared by the tour manager. I was also pleased that there were only 22 participants on our tour, a perfectly small number!

Scotland was beautiful! I have been there before, but not as far north as this tour went. I didn't expect it to be so green! The Orkney Islands were great and I loved watching the sheep dogs. Our tour manager, Geoff, was very knowledgeable and friendly.
