You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.
You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.
You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.
You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

Loved all the aspects of this trip. The train gives you the experience of travel. Enjoyed the staff on the train and was pleased by the dining experience. Jasper Park was beautiful and was so fortunate to experience walking on the glacier. The beauty of the Rockies continued throughout the trip with the aqua waters and tall peaks. Although some days smoke filtered our views it was still amazing. The Fairmont properties, especially in Banff are exquisite with such stunning views. Our tour guide made everyone feel at home while sharing her knowledge of the area.

I can’t say enough positive about the Canadian Rockies tour! Clare Martin was an amazing leader…from the train experience all the way to Calgary. Hotel accommodations were superior. Meals were well planned and always delicious in wonderful venues. I was just not ready for the trip to end. It was fulfilled and beautiful memory packed.

I would not recommend the overnight train excursion. Train was old and although we expected a small room it was too small for two people. Toilet smelled. One dome car was definitely not enough for the amount of people on the train. Food was good. Tram ride in Jasper too crowded and the meal at the restaurant was very bad. The rest of the tour was fabulous. Our tour guide Roger Keyes was a wealth of knowledge and our bus driver Nell was very accommodating and friendly.

Our tour manager and bus driver were outstanding. We did not enjoy the train ride at all. We were sold on the fact that there was a viewing car which there was to be shared amongst 90 people. The only thing enjoyable was the food which was excellent. The trip up the mountain in Jasper was great with the exception of the food which was not good at all. The second leg of our trip was cancelled on the way home due to the worldwide internet issue, which was not the fault of Collette, however I was given the customer service number a week ago Monday which I called and was told that I would be given a link to address expenses incurred which I have not been provided to date.

This was a great trip very scenic always something to look forward to . Claire took excellent care of us and our luggage . She was always upbeat and a joy to have as our leader. The rafting and sky restaurant dinner were a couple of favorites. Heartbreaking that jasper was in the fire.. the train would have been better with cars like the rocky mountaineer to see more of the beautiful country

Great trip. Clare Martin was a great guide and made the tour that much more fun. The bus was comfortable & the driver, Elke was great. I think that the boat ride on the lake should have been included in the tour and not an extra. The only negative, to me, is that the "meet & greet" should have been on day 1. The first day, although we used the free time to walk around Vancouver, was not really part of our tour. We would have liked the opportunity to meet our fellow tour mates the day before.

The Canadian Rockies by train was a fantastic tour with a variety of fun experiences and such beautiful vistas! The one day train ride was a unique experience with excellent service and meals. The towns of Jasper and Banff were fun to explore. Our entire group took the optional lake cruise to Spirit Island, which was a highlight for us, along with the amazing glacier walk. The Fairmont accommodations were luxurious and relaxing. We highly recommend this as a must-see destination.

The views were breathtaking. I came home with a collection of stunning photos and videos. I loved living and sleeping on the train. Guests should understand that there is only one night and two partial days on the train during this tour. While the train was one of my personal favorite parts, not everyone was as enamored or slept as well as I did, so - for most of our group - the short time on the train was sufficient. This trip moves across a large territory: in only one location did we spend two nights in the same bed. Guests will be living out of their suitcases. For gluten-free visitors: Canada is a gluten-free-friendly place to visit. Collette had ensured that the establishments we visited as a group had gf options that were well marked. Additionally, when choosing restaurants on my own during free time, I was easily able to find places to eat where I had excellent gf options. For Collette: I recommend doing a better job preparing guests for their "free time." For example, at Granville Island, we had free time. Only when we gathered to get back on the bus after this time did we pass a display of free maps of the Island. The map was wonderfully detailed. It would have been helpful to provide this map to the guests the evening before so that we could have planned out our free time there. In another example, we had free time in two different towns (Japser and Banff) where we were dropped off downtown after touring on the bus. In other words, we had heavy backpacks with us. It would have been helpful to stop at the hotel so that we could drop off our heavy things before dropping us off downtown. Also, in Banff, WE discovered that the hotel provided a free bus pass for guests. Those should have automatically been provided to us upon arrival. It was an unnecessary stress for us.

Overall it was a great trip. There was some planning that could have been better -- didn't get to see Vancouver city. Some days we didn't get lunch or had 20 minutes to go somewhere and order and eat and be on the bus. No step on guides that knew the area (but bus driver knew more than tour guide sometimes) and the tour guide read from a paper.

I liked everything, but the overnight room on the train. It was terrible. Too small and should not of had bunk beds. Bunk beds for older people doesn't work. Very dangerous!! Bathroom was way too small. Will never sleep over on a train again. Everything else on the train was fine.

They know where to take you on these trips, where not to take you, and how to get you into places ahead of the crowd. I very much like the limo service they arrange to get you to and from the airport.

The scenery on this trip was spectacular. Banff and the surrounding area is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. The train ride was also a very unique experience and a perfect way to see the landscape in a quiet and relaxed setting.

The one day bus driver to Vancouver Island had a bad attitude and was more concerned about traffic on a special concert day then giving good advise to the tourists on where to go once they were off the bus.

With the exception of the Sawridge Lodge accommodations were stellar... Didn't enjoy the gem show much...too much of a sales pitch there. Our first driver Doug, was not on par with Collette...seemed like he was new; polite but didnt go over and above. But the drier Brent, who showed up last full day was excellent and provided superior service! Most favorable moments were...Julie Rolleman...exceptional!!! And the Glacier and train ride!

The only thing I wouldn't rate 5 stars is the train accommodations. However, the food on the train was fantastic, as it was whenever we had an included meal on the tour. Most of all, I loved seeing all of the beautiful, snow-capped mountains from Jaspar till the ranch outside of Calgary.

The train ride was not very scenic or comfortable. But the coach ride from Jasper through Lake Louise and to Banf was spectacular at this time of year with snow falls alternating with beautiful blue skies and snow-covered mountains and landscapes.

The trip was well planned. The lodging was excellent everywhere except in Jasper. The layout of the motel was inconvenient and many of our group walked down dark walkways.We unfortunately had a problem with the tour manager. This was his last tour before leaving Collette and he was rude and not helpful on numerous occasions. I assured other travelers this was not the norm for Collette.

The scenery was spectacular, loved the variety of areas visited & nice mix of scheduled and free time. Moraine Lake was so beautiful that everyone thought our photos looked fake! We climbed the spot to get the best view and were so overcome at the beauty it took your breath away! Sleeping on a train was a once fun & unique experience.

The logistics were good upon arrival and departure. We appreciated Collette Compass and Collette Talk. Our side trip to Victoria was good. However the disappointing experience on the train was a bad start to a mediocre tour. The train was uncomfortable and did not compare well with train travel we have experienced. We were not seeking a ride on a 1950’s train, perhaps we didn’t read the promotional material carefully enough. We enjoyed Jasper, Lake Louise and Bannff and the ranch although we were given more time at tourist shops than we needed. Overall the scenery was good. The food was outstanding everywhere. The hotels were comfortable. The bus driver was competent and polite however we did not appreciate his off color stories. The tour director certainly knew the area well but she didn’t see with the same “first time eyes” we did. She did a good job in organizing and keeping everything on track. She was clearly at a disadvantage after the train ride because everyone we spoke with viewed it as a bad start. Overall we’ve experienced better and worse tours with Collette. Some tours with other companies were outstanding. We will look around more before we use Collette again.

This was unavoidable but did make it difficult to enjoy the extra day spent in the Vancouver area. There was not , enough time allotted to enjoy seeing Victoria Island on the tour by Greyline there.

Tour guides on both trips were just great, very knowledgeable and always available for anything you might need - very hard working from early morning until late at night. Everything was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour w/Catherine & the driver. All the other traveling companions were very friendly & courteous with none ever being late for our departure. The sights we saw were all magnificent. We had been wanting to come here for some time & glad we chose this tour. All the hotels we stayed at were very good to extremely excellent. The stop at the ranch for BBQ was our least favorite thing. The train ride was a unique adventure & got lots of nice photo opps. The sleeping compartment was adequate but noisy for a light sleeper. Catherine was extremely knowledgeable. Would travel with Collette again.

It was an outstanding experience allowing to see and do SO much more than we could have on our own. Catherine was SUPERB! Our only ding would be the flights-should have done them on our own. Both were @ 6am and Collette insisted we get there 3 hours early; in both instances NO ONE showed at ticketing/TSA./Customs until 5AM. During "normal airport hours" 3 hrs would be advisable and safe,BUT not the 1st flights in the EARLY am.

You had Julie as our tour guide and Benil as our driver. It coudn't have been better. They are the reasons that Collette is successful! The weather, fires and smoke was a bummer but hey, you can't control that. That Sawbridge hotel was a disaster. The wake up call was 45 minutes late,room numbers on the hotel room and phone didn't match ( a disaster in case of an emergency) and the shower didn't work properly.

Our travel to and from was awful. the change in the train schedule causing us to miss dinner on the train and the city tour in Vancouver was a disappointment. Every employee of Collette that I talked to by phone was wonderful, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with.

Was very disappointed that the tour titled "Canadian Rockies By Train" had the train portion of the tour canceled. Also had mechanical problems with the bus almost every day causing delays and aggravation. Tour guide did a good job given all the problems he had to deal with.

We had several issues on this trip. First I was not able to get a souvenir cowboy hat from the stampeded because the only sizes available to me were large and extra large. We had many different buses and drivers. Because of this the seats and name tags were not rotated. It made it difficult to learn names. We were among the unfortunate to have to stay in the little side building off the Fairmont in Banff. There was no way those two buildings were comparable. Also, we missed the highlight of the trip which was the train ride. I know that we were compensated for this, but it was the main reason that we took this particular vacation.

I would definitely recommend the Colorado Rockies trip, it was spectacular, Ricardo was an excellent tour guide. I was disappointed we were unable to take the train, after explanation, I did understand, but was still disappointed as it was the main reason for the tour. The refund helped immensely. My husband was not a fan of the 10 hour bus trip in lieu of train, but had a good experience over all.

You could have emailed us earlier that the train portion of "Canadian Rockies By Rail would be eliminated and given us the opportunity to withdraw from the trip without penalty. Your guide could have scheduled an orientation. He did not. Your guide could have made a definitive time for returning to the bus without changing it. We had to question other participants to see what time they understood "return to the bus" to be on several occasions. Timing was too tight. Not enough time was allotted to enjoy stops. Too much was crammed into too short a period of time.

There was no orientation prior to setting out on the tour. The tour was supposed to include a train ride. There was no train ride and Collette had to have known prior to the tour starting that there would be no train ride because "plan B" was already in place and the guide started to prepare us for no train ride when were still in Calgary. The guide kept making schedule changes and many of us did not know about the time changes.

The tour guide, Catherine, was very knowledgeable and friendly. She was very good at preparing us for each beautiful sight and keeping us on schedule. Our bus driver, Denise, was also personable and did a great job in driving. I did not give a five star rating for several reasons. The gentleman who met us at the Vancouver airport, did not give first class service. When our bags finally arrived he took our little carry ons and left us with the heavy luggage to deal with. Then he practically ran out of the airport and left us running after him. He obviously was in a hurry. Needless to say he received no tip. I would also have liked to have known before our trip began, just how much tipping was going to be involved. For some reason, I assumed Collette included many of the tips in their pricing. However, that was not the case. Your pamphlet did mention the amounts for the tour guide, the bus driver and some of the hotel cleaning people. I have been on other tours with other companies where most of the tips were taken care of. I was just surprised that this would happen with Collette. We stayed in lovely places and the dinner at the Teahouse in Stanley Park could not have been better. All in all a lovely trip.

Top billed overnight train ride was cancelled due to track traffic somewhere. Instead we endured a ten hour bus ride to Vancouver . I signed up for trip for train experience. The compensation only took into account the financial ramifications , no consideration for spending a whole day, from early am to 7 pm, on a bus! The food was wonderful although our first dinner was not by choice, we were assigned a restaurant . Accommodations were above average and should have been for a price tag over $5000, Trip was not worth five thousand dollars!

As an example, when one of the guest asked what type of food a particular restaurant served, **personal information removed by Feefo* recited the name of the restaurant (i.e. - Mario's - not actual name) and said what do you think. Other responses in terms of what kind of food is served, **personal information removed by Feefo* responded 4 foot, 2 foot, no feet. This is not a common term in the US and the majority of guess had no idea what he was talking about. Frankly, I don't want to pay a significant amount of money to go on a trip and then have to work to get along with the tour guide. Based on our experience, I would not be likely to recommend Collette.

The whole trip was very well planned and executed by the agent. There were no delays or issues. Everyone on the holiday I think enjoyed themselves and mixed well. A few friendships I think were made at that time. What helped was the weather which we were informed was not as good the previous week. If there was a point that cause confusion is tipping. All US customers had a rate for this stated in their travel documents. Visitors from other parts of the world i.e. UK/Australia etc. did not have this clause. I think some visitors form outside the US were therefore confused by this and did not know if it applied?

I was disappointed in the train only in the fact that it was impossible to sleep - a terrible way to start the tour. It would have been better to travel during the day and enjoy more scenery and then be able to sleep in the Jasper hotel on the first night.

We did ask to be located near the elevators because of the trouble walking, when we booked the trip. This didn't happen, we usually had to hike to the elevator. The looks from the tour guide when we were not the last to enter the bus. Even waiting for the golf cart to assist in going on the gondola... "Your going to wait!" Even though it was first class all of the way, I doubt if we would travel with Collette again. Would rated it 5 stars if we were younger.

Not sure we had a favorite experience because we had a good time on the whole trip. Enjoyed the overnight train and Taking the Glacier buggy to the Glacier and being able to walk on it was something I had not done before. The rafting trip we ended up floating down the glacial river in rain, thunder, pouring rain, gusting wind and sleet. The weather was horrible BUT everyone laughed and joked. And when our joyride was over and the bus driver thought of bringing towels to dry off the rain stopped and the rest of the day it was sunny.

The overnight train Via Rail to Jasper was not for old people. I decided to take the top bunk as it would have caused my husband pain to climb the ladder. I wasn't thrilled at the experience myself. There should have been some indication in the advertisement as to the need to climb a ladder to get into bed. Also, there as no indication in advance that the train would be on a siding for most of the trip to let freight trains pass. The train ride is a deal breaker. The tour director didn't always communicate the next move to all the tour participants and also left the people sitting on the "wildlife tour" bus while he renewed an acquaintance with another tour guide. It had been a long day and we were tired. In addition, having the hotel in Hinton was too far from Jasper State Park. Also, we sat in traffic because of road work between Hinton and Jasper. It took up a lot of time that could have been used to walk around Jasper to get acquainted with the town. The location of the hotel in Hinton was not close to any places to walk.

The accommodations, service, locations, food, etc, were all excellent. Accommodations in Jasper were somewhat disappointing in comparison. We would have rathered have stayed at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. All tour inclusions were wonderful with the exception of the ranch. This was a nice stop for lunch but we would have fathered have skipped the activities there and spent more time exploring Lake Louise.

I'm definitely NOT a typical tour customer because I lead tours myself as a high school Latin teacher who has taken groups to Italy and Greece for the past 18 years. I'm particular about itineraries, hotels, restaurants and I always look for the most authentic experiences in a country. The thought of spending my vacation with 34 strangers concerned me. I know how groups can be soured by just a couple of people. Collette's choice of hotels, restaurants and the pacing of each day was perfect. We weren't rushed around too fast and could take the time to do as we wished. Our group's average age was 70 something and they were all very seasoned travelers who were punctual, pleasant and considerate. The group leader, Geoff H. was incredible! He really made the trip memorable with his knowledge, his kindness and his humor. I would give him 5*****s. Wonderful man, professional and really knowledgable. The hotels were excellent - clean, well appointed, centrally located. I loved the bus tour the best because the beauty of the Canadian Rockies is best seen slowly, the train was too fast. The only suggestion that our group of 4 had was to skip Lake Louise as an overnight because it was SO crowded and confusing. Plan on two or three hours there but leave for Banff OR stay longer at Jasper. We'll use Collette again for our trip to Alaska in 3 years when we take the entire family- 9 or us - for our 50th anniversary. Count on it.

Bus driver was very nice too and a great driver. A lot of photo opportunities. We would differently recommend Collette to others and hope to go on another trip with them in the future.

All the places we went were great. I especially liked Banff. Staying at the Banff Springs Resort (castle) was my favorite. The place is so big and beautiful with so much history. I loved the town. Great places to shop too. Very relaxing too since we did not have to drive and handle our luggage.

Felt the service was excellent. We paid for our airplane our self and could not figure out why the flights were more with your service. Not until we purchased our transfers did we understand that the $100 difference in flight expense was for pickup to and from the airport. They rep should explain the cost of flights a little better.

The beauty of the glacier feed lakes were amazing. Loved the whole experience. Also the rainbow with the waterfall. Loved seeing the black bear and cubs, grizzly bear and other wildlife. Beautiful waterfalls. Loved the great food, hotels and the tour guide.

The train was a great experience and the tour manager made it fun. As a package tour it was fantastic. From Vancouver to Calgary and everything in between it has been one of my best trips ever. I live in Sedona AZ which is a GREAT place to visit. Trip was a great value.

All agents were very friendly. If they did not know the answer to my question, they checked with a supervisor. They did not have correct information on customs procedure at Toronto Airport, which took a lot of time to complete before we reached our gate just before the plane door was closing.

The scenery, the tour mgr., the fine hotels all made this one of my best travel experiences. The sleep over on train was an adventure, & the first time for me. We were fortunate in that a blizzard two days before arrival blanketed snow all over the mountains, which made it more picturesque. Jasper was outstandingly beautiful. The lakes, rushing rivers and glaciers were awesome. Lake Louise was exquisite in every detail. The hotel was elegant, the meals top notch and the service outstanding. Banff also provided the elegance and grand scenery. I've been to Alaska, but I would rate this trip just as high in natural beauty and splendor.

I had always wanted to go the the Canadian Rockies and Collette made this a memorable trip. We stayed in 5 star hotels, had delicious meals, etc. Every little detail was handled by Collette and our EXCELLENT tour manager. I especially liked Lake Louise and also going out onto the Columbia Glacier. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone contemplating visiting the Canadian Rockies.

From the moment I arrived at Vancouver airport the service I received was first class. The only slight imperfection was that on the train between Vancouver and Jasper. The brochure indicated that we would be travelling on a train that had panoramic views in all of the carriages, this turned out to not be the case. The train we were on had only three observation cars. Geoff our courier did an excellent job in getting us to each destination on time and was extremely knowledgeable and also kept us amused with various titbits that he passed on.

All of the hotels I stayed at were superb. Geoff the tour manager was excellent. Bruce our driver on the coach was very courteous and helpful. The best moment for me was seeing three black bear youngsters.

We have traveled with Collette several times and my mother used them as a travel agent for many years. They provide professional tour guides, nice buses, hotels and food choices overall. Their trips are not so overbooked that you don't have time to relax and have free time. They normally provide thorough documentation, reliable transfers and airport transportation. I think they can do a better job of footnoting items in the brochure that will not be available at certain times of year so that travelers know what to expect and are not surprised and disappointed when what they paid for on the trip is not available. Full disclosure would have allowed travelers to choose another date later in the year.

We specifically booked this tour for my 30 year retirement celebration to visit Lake Louise and the Canadian Rockies. The brochure did not disclose that Lake Louise was frozen this time of year and that many of the roads are closed and activities that were normally a part of the tour could not be done because the lakes were frozen or not open yet for the season. If we had known, we would have booked a later date. The tour guide and locals along the way commented on normally this time of year it is snowing and very cold and the weather we had was phenomenal for this time of year. I shudder to think how it would have been if the weather had been normal. Because there was snow everywhere, you could not get the full appreciation of the color of the icefields, Lake Louise or any of the other scenery because it was all white until we got to Banff. It was 60 degrees the day we went to the dude ranch but they did not tell you that all the animals were gone for the winter and they were not open to the public yet. The brochure said the hayride was weather permitting but even with 60 degree weather the only animal on the ranch this time of year was the owner's dog. The tour director did a nice job of trying to do what we could considering the conditions out of his control. We enjoyed the train ride, the hotel in Banff, the river raft trip (although cold), the helicopter ride, the hotels were nice, the food good, and exploring Vancouver. We were extremely disappointed that we paid $200 extra for a Lake view at Lake Louise to view a frozen lake. The path around the lake was not open due to snow thus the tea house was closed. There is not much to do at Chateau Lake Louise with a frozen lake. The issue with the information not being disclosed was not the tour director's fault. I believe that Colette should be more forthcoming and footnote those areas where lakes are frozen and conditions are still winter. If you were looking for a winter vacation, you would have loved this. We saved our money for what should have been the trip of a life time and were extremely disappointed. We did our research and knew the weather was going to be cool but supposedly sunny but we never imagined frozen waterfalls, lakes, closed roads, closed restrooms on the highway, and snow. The only other footnote in the brochure was for breakfast at Maligne Lake being offered only Jun 1-Sep 30. If you want the full experience of this trip, you must go later in the season. As you can see from my photo, not the $200 view from the brochure we were expecting.

Most of the trip was very good. The alternative for the down time specifically the helicopter ride was way to expensive. The tour guide was very discouraging for anyone to take the less expensive flight. Maybe more included meals.
